Elizabeth A. Cunningham, 83, of Wrightsville, passed away peacefully at home on December 11, 2018. She was the wife of Spurgeon H. Cunningham, Jr. with whom she was married for 65 years. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Clyde M. Sr. and Anna Mann Shaud.

She retired in 2000 from Jandy Apparel, Hellam, where she worked in the shipping department for many years. She was a member of the Longstown United Methodist Church, was an avid reader and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, are her sons, Steven A. Cunningham; David H. husband of Debra Cunningham; daughters, Diane E. wife of Steven Peters; Bonnie S. Cunningham; four granddaughters; three great granddaughters; one great grandson; brothers, Kenneth and Ronald Shaud; sisters, Barbara McCleary and Marsha Keller. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clyde M. Shaud, Jr. and three grandsons.

A memorial service will be held from the Clyde E. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia PA 17512 on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Pastor Laura E. Hulsey, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family request casual attire. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elizabeth’s name to the Longstown U.M. John W. Dunn, 79, of Mount Joy, entered into rest after a long battle with cancer on December 12, 2018 at the Lebanon VA Hospital. He was the husband of Fay L. Corrigan Dunn with whom he was married 39 years.

Born in Croyden, PA he was he adopted son of the late Colonel Harold and Rosanna Schlegal Dunn.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a medical corpsman on one of the last diesel submarines. After serving in the Navy, John attended the University of Alabama where he obtained a Masters Degree in Computer Science. He worked on the computer system program for the merging of the the Pennsylvania and New York Railroad Systems and also worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of General Services. Wanting a change of career, he went on to work for federal and local law enforcement agencies, retiring from the New Cumberland Army Depot.

He enjoyed playing golf, fishing in DE, NJ and VA; attending NASCAR races and watching his favorite drivers the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and later his son, Dale Jr.

He leaves behind his wife Fay and close friend Beverly Wilcoxen and two crazy cockatiels, Mr. Jinx and Rascal which gave him many years of enjoyment.

At John’s request, there will be no public viewing. Services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Mary A. Smith, age 95, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Margate, Florida, on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. Mary was born October 17, 1923 in Potts Grove, PA, to Jacob L. and Mary Catherine (Weaver) Kremer. She grew up in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, with two sisters and two brothers. After graduating from Sunbury High School, Mary moved to Columbia where she worked for the United States Department of the Army for 15 years at the Marietta U.S. Army Depot. As a talented seamstress and dress designer, she then worked for a brief time designing dresses for a dress manufacturer. She also worked as a Kelly girl for the John Wright Foundry in Wrightsville and Hamilton Watch in Lancaster. She was married on November 22, 1947, to Marvin Sylvester "Poke" Smith of Columbia, and together they had one daughter, Jacquelyn Ann, born in 1952. In the early 1960s, Mary returned to work for the federal government at the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Social Security offices in Lancaster and later in York. After retiring in 1980, Mary traveled all over the United States (usually by train, her favorite mode of transportation), served on the Columbia Area Republican Committee, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and The Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, and spoiled all her family and friends with her delicious, homemade fudge. Mary was a faithful, long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia. Mary lived in her home on S. 13th Street in Columbia with her husband for 48 years, and another 14 years following his death in 1995 until she moved to St. John's Herr Estate in 2009. In 2017, she moved to South Florida, to spend her remaining years with her loving daughter, Jacquelyn.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn (John) Moore; her loving grandchildren: Kristin (Bill) Quinn, Kimberly (Cliff) Dees, Katherine (Matt) Chess, Hannelore (Greg) Conde, and Johnny Moore; her great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn Quinn, Kaleb Quinn, Gregory Conde, Gavin Conde, Grayson Conde, Annaliese Chess, Gage Conde, Gunnar Conde, Adalyn Chess, Chloe Dees, and Grant Conde; her sister, Ruth (Kremer) Leader, and many loving nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers John and Joseph Kremer, sister Catherine Kremer, and grandson James Michael Moore.

The funeral service will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 23 S. 6th Street, Columbia, PA 17512, on Thursday, December 13, 2018 (Viewing at 10 am; Service at 11 am). An interment service will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, where Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Marvin. A luncheon will be held at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church immediately following the interment. Homer R. "Sas" Zeamer, 79, of Kinderhook, PA passed away at his home on December 4, 2018. He was the husband of Donna M. Zeamer with whom he was married 57 years. He was born in Conestoga, PA to the late Homer E. and Erma B. (Rankin) Zeamer.

He proudly served in the USMC from 1956 to 1959 where he was a sharpshooter and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He retired from Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster after 35 years of employment.

He enjoyed antiquing, woodworking, car shows, and music. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren, whom he loved with all of his heart.

In addition to his wife are his sons, Brian J. Zeamer husband of Michelle; Steven C. Zeamer husband of Stephanie; grandchildren Zachary, Brianne, Rachael, and Matthew. He is survived by his brother, Harold "Angel" Zeamer, and was preceded in death by his sister, Janet "Sis" Hobday.

Per Homer's request, a military graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Silver Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The American Cancer Society.

Ronald Lee Henne, 69, of Leola passed away at Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia on December 2, 2018 after a battle with cancer. He was born in Lancaster to Mary Kile Henne and the Late Frank S. Henne. He graduated from Hempfield High School, after which he proudly served in the United States Navy for four years. He was employed at Lancaster Thread Company as a machine operator until his retirement. His interests included Fishing, horse racing, playing cards and games with friends, and visiting casinos. His faithful companions were his feline friends, Fenwick and Sapphire.

Ron is survived by his mother, Mary L. Henne, three sisters, Mary R., wife of James Brubaker of Mount Joy, Dianne J. MacRae of Leola, Brenda S. Henne of San Antonio, Texas, and a brother, Alfred J. Henne of York. Also, four nephews and a niece.

Mary Elizabeth Brown, 74, of Landisville passed away suddenly on December 5th, 2018. She was born in Pottsville to the late Michael Basarob and Julia Super, but was raised by her adopted mother, Lillie Basarob. Mary was proud of her work ethic and enjoyed her job at Electron Energy Corporation for twenty-nine years. She loved traveling with family and friends. Mary had an outgoing personality and was a member of Lancaster Liederkranz, V.F.W. Post 5752 in Mount Joy, and the Dela-Ches Fishing Association. She was also a member of Church of God of Landisville and was known to volunteer and help wherever she could.

Mary leaves behind her husband of fifty-three years, Dennis Brown of Landisville; her daughters, DeAnna, wife of Anthony Massa of Mount Joy, Helene Brown of Landisville; a sister-in-law, Darlene Laubenstein of Bethel, PA; canine companion, Earzee Mae; grand dog, Caesar; grand cats, Daphne and Bella.

Services for Mary will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 13th, 2018 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 247 Main St, Landisville, PA 17538. Francis (Joe) Joseph Mongeau, Sr., 80, Columbia, died peacefully in his sleep on December 2, 2018 at Lancashire Hall after a lengthy illness. Born in Cabbage Hill, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Krimmel) Mongeau. Joe is survived by brothers, Edward Mongeau (Doris), Robert Mongeau, Sr., and sisters, Theresa Cameron (Don), all of Lancaster, and Bernadette Markley of Florida. He will be missed by his three children, Diana Fels (William Jr.) of Mount Joy, Francis Joseph Mongeau, Jr. (Angela) of Columbia, and Marci Mowery (Joseph Frassetta) of Camp Hill, his eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Joe was preceded in death by two brothers, James Krimmel and Richard Mongeau, one sister Audrey Weiler, and one great granddaughter, Leah Vogel.

Joe was a man who liked to live by his own rules and was not ruled by material things. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and was known to be quite a dancer. Joe loved to tinker around his wood shop and was always willing to help a neighbor who needed a hand. He retired from Trojan Yacht. Joe will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local food bank or your favorite charity in Joe’s name.

Michelle E."Chelley" Koser, 52, formerly of Columbia, passed away on November 30, 2018. She was the wife of John C. Koser. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Cletus B. Messer, Jr. and Joanne Furnari Messer, who survives.

Chelley was a food service worker, having been employed by Wendy's, Hershey Entertainment and St. Anne's which she truly loved. She enjoyed reading cookbooks, needlepoint and the company of her many cats.

In addition to her mother and husband, she is survived by her siblings, Dale R. husband of Sandy Messer; Terri, wife of Randy Siegrist; Bernadette Newcomer, companion of Thomas; Hidi Wagner; Joseph Sequin, ten nieces and nephews and seven great-nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her aunt and uncle.

Funeral services will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, 655 S. Tenth St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Monday, December, 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp, officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive family and friends at the church, one hour prior to the service. Alvin C. Christian

Retired Staff SGT United States Air Force

Retired Staff Sgt. Alvin C. Christian, 84, passed away on November 25, 2018 at the Lebanon V.A. Medical Center where he had been a patient for the past nine and a half years. Alvin was born in Yukon, WV, but at an early age moved to Tazewell, VA where he grew up.

In 1955 he joined the U.S.A.F. and served as an Air Traffic Controller. He served two tours of duty of which one was at Monkey Mountain, Vietnam, where his unit was hit and he was injured. He recuperated in Tokyo and returned to active duty. He was stationed in Thailand, Okinawa and Spain and twice in Germany. He competed in Judo for the U.S. Armed Forces throughout Europe and was a heavyweight champion for three straight years, 1963, 1964 and 1965. While in Germany, he learned to speak the language and was used as an interpreter at military meetings throughout Europe. He retired from the military in 1975.

Alvin was married for 40 years to Mary Wolpert Christian. They moved to Corvallis, OR in 1978 where he loved to hunt deer and elk, salmon fishing and deep-sea fishing. Al was a member of the Corvallis Lodge 1413, B.P.O.E. where he was past Exulted Ruler. He became interested in “rockhounding” while living in Oregon and had his own lapidary shop. He learned to wire wrap stones that he later polished, making them into jewelry. When his family moved back to Columbia in 1994, he sold his rocks and jewelry at Roots and Green Dragon Markets as well at craft shows throughout the Mid Atlantic states. The kid’s referred to him as the “Rockman.”

In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his children: Joni, John, Pamela, Whitney and Kelly; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brothers: Verle, Walter, Orris, and Robert and sister, Patricia. He was preceded in death by a stillborn infant and siblings, William and Carol.

A private ceremony with Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Richard R. Richards, 81, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 at UMPC Pinnacle, Lancaster. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Ralph V. Richards, Sr. and Rose Wolfe Richards.

He graduated from Donegal High School in 1956 and was a U.S.A.F. veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a weapons mechanic assigned to the 354th Armament and Electronic Maintenance Squadron. He retired from the Sahd Metal Recycling Center, Columbia, where he was employed as a yard worker.

Rich was close to his poker friends, Mike, Marlin, Jim and Harry.

He is survived by his stepbrothers, Rodger, Timothy, and Thomas Richards; stepsisters, Rebecca Pieffer, Susie Richards. His stepmother, Elaine Hildebrand Richards; siblings, Ed, Bob, Ralph V. Sr. and Betty preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia PA 17512 on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Janet E. Townsley, 84, of Stoney Brook Gardens, York, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care. She was the wife of the late Charles W. Townsley, Sr. who preceded her in death in 2001. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clyde M. and Laura Musselman Lefever.

Janet retired from AMP, Inc., Mount Joy and was a member of the Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the "Hambones," trips to Hollywood Casino and bird watching.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda, wife of Thomas Fetter, Tammy, wife of Edward Dickel; grandchildren, Avalon, Sarah, Erik; five stepchildren and a sister, Shirley Bayman.

A celebration of Janet's life will be held at the Wrightsville Hope U.M. Church, 404 Hellam St., Wrightsville, PA 17368 on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jerry Schmidt, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. On November 21st, 2018 at 4:13 p.m. Heaven gained another angel. Sarah Anne Benner, 63, of Columbia was the daughter of the late Jack Charles Benner and Alverta Elizabeth Shultz. She is survived by her two sons, Michael Daniel Lauver and John Edward Lauver; her brothers, Edward Eugene Benner, John Raymond Benner, and William E. Stoner; her sisters, Mary Jane Roberts and Holly Zipp; five grandchildren, Michael, Morgan, Malorie, Dominic, and Jasmine Lauver; her lifelong partner and childhood friend, Eugene Chester Raymond. Barbara A. Mitchell, 77, of Elizabethtown passed away suddenly on November 16th, 2018 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in St. Clair, PA to the late Michael and Mary Fekette Kubich. Barbara loved people and traveling with her husband. She enjoyed sewing, shopping at thrift stores, and was an amazing decorator of her home. Barbara was a member of Reich's Evangelical Congregational Church.

Barbara leaves behind her husband, Dannie Mitchell of Elizabethtown; Her children, Harry Sweigard of San Francisco, CA, Suzette, wife of Joe Tomcavage of Halifax, PA; three grandchildren, Dusty, Tyler, and Ashley; five great grandchildren; two siblings, Gerri, wife of Doyle Deppen of Elizabethville, Eric Clough of Millersburg.

A Celebration of Barbara's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at Reich's Evangelical Congregational Church, 338 Stackstown Rd, Marietta, PA 17547. Mary Lou Sipe, 79, of Lancaster passed away on November 17th, 2018. She was born in Columbia to the late William H. and Esther Schmook Brommer and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mary Lou was a 1957 graduate of Columbia High School and retired as the supervisor at Jay’s Nest at Elizabethtown College in 2001 after 16 years of service. She enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, MD since the 1970s, playing bingo, visiting the casino, and shopping. Mary Lou, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who adored her family.

Lou Lou, as she was affectionately known, was always smiling. She was always willing the help others. She loved to meet new friends, give and receive hugs, and share treats with others, and give small gifts, especially angels. She also loved to travel to see new places and visit family and friends.

She made many friends in Columbia and Wrightsville where she lived nearly all her life. In Wrightsville, she was elected Judge of Elections and worked the polls for years. She was a volunteer for number of organizations including Columbia Meals on Wheels. During her later years, she resided in Trinity House for about 6.5 years until 2016, after selling her home of about 50 years in Wrightsville. While at Trinity House, she enjoyed welcoming many new residents of the building, brightening the building with her cheerful decorations during various holidays, and going to breakfast almost daily at her favorite nearby restaurant, Hinkle’s Restaurant.

During her 16 years working at Elizabethtown College, she loved working with and serving the students. She stayed in touch with students even after graduation and attended some of their weddings.

Mary Lou leaves behind her sons, Jim, husband of Karen Sipe of Lancaster, John Sipe, fiancé of Missy Chronister of York; four grandchildren, Abby, Andy, Anthony, Ally and mother Leah Sipe; great grandchild, Dakota; her siblings: William H. Brommer, Jr., husband of Madeline Brommer; Joanne Stotz, wife of the late Harold Stotz; Linda Cramer, wife of the late Martin Cramer; Jack Brommer, husband of Rosie Brommer; numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Lou.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Sipe in 1977; four siblings, Esther Gochenaur, Margaret Ulmer, Janet Bowles, and Wilma Kuhn.

Edward R. Eshleman, 90, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alice Martin Eshleman who preceded him in death in 2010. Born and raised in Washington Boro, he was the son of the late Earl and Alice Neff Eshleman.

Ed retired from the former Bear Creek Construction Company, where he was employed as superintendent of road and bridge construction. He was a lifetime member of the Washington Boro Church of God where he served for many years on the church council and taught teen boys Sunday School. He was recognized by the Lancaster Newspapers, receiving the Red Rose Award for his volunteerism in helping to restore the Washington Boro Heritage Center Building, the Washington Boro Fire Company and the Church of God Parsonage.

Always generous with his time, Ed enjoyed helping others, welcoming people at St. John's Herr Estates, often baking pies for them, in addition to helping with projects. His greatest joy was his family, especially visits with his great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for having a generous heart and giving spirit.

Ed is survived by his four daughters, Donna, wife of James Bailey; Susan, wife of Jack Miller; Sheila Mann; Rita, wife of Lynn Hollinger; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and brother, James Eshleman. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Earl.

A memorial service will be held from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Regitz, officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service. Kindly omit flowers. William Baughman, 69, of Bainbridge, formerly of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Hospice and Community Care. He was the husband of Yvonne Derr Baughman with whom he was married 52 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Jean Baughman Dolby and stepson of George Dolby.

He retired in 2014 after more then 30 years of service from the Armstrong Ceiling Plant, Marietta. Well known in Marietta civic circles, Bill was active in the Marietta Fire Police and for many years served as the borough dog catcher.

In addition to his wife, surviving are his daughters, Melissa, wife of John Auten; Shelby, wife of Todd Sweigart; Nicole, wife of Tom King; two grandchildren, Dayna, wife of Cory Mays, Joshua Haubert; three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caydence, Emily; brother, Barry Dolby; sister, Mary Nein.

A funeral service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia PA on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. James G. Smith, 30, of Columbia passed away on November 13th, 2018 following injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born in Columbia to Carl, Jr. and Debrah Smith and was a lifelong resident of this area. James was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 2006 and graduated from Lancaster County Career & Technology Center where he studied auto mechanics. He worked for almost ten years at St. Anne’s Retirement Community and for the last four years he worked at the former Colonial Metals. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors, but he absolutely loved being with his family and friends.

James leaves behind his son, Blade Smith of Marietta; his parents, Carl, Jr. husband of Debrah Smith of Columbia; his sister, Mandy Smith, companion of Michael Girdley of Marietta; his grandparents, James and Julie Zink of Columbia; several aunt’s, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl, Sr. and Janice Smith.

A Celebration of James’ life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St. Columbia, PA 17512. Merrill J. Hess, 77 of 304 Kilgannon Lane, Lancaster, PA died on Sunday, November 11, 2018 surrounded by his family at home.He was the husband of Teresa M. Williams Hess.They would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on November 24th.

Born in Magnolia, NJ he was the son of the late John E. and Helen M. Shimko Hess. Merrill retired as a foreman from Nolt & Nolt, Inc. He was a member of the Faith Outreach Center Assembly of God Church in Mt. Joy. Merrill played baseball in high school and was scouted by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was an avid sports fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He also loved horse racing. Merrill was a man who spoke his mind and had a strong constitution for life. He loved to sing and loved listening to Gospel Music. He proudly served his country as a SPC. 4 U.S. Army and served in Korea and Alaska.

Surviving besides his wife is a son: Merrill J. Hess, Jr. (Joey) husband of Darryl Coble of Lancaster, PA, 3 daughters: Tammy wife of Shamar Anderson of Columbia, PA, Sara wife of Glenn Greenawalt of Lancaster, PA, and Julie wife of Kenneth Horn of Middletown, CT. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Desiree Poole, Samia Anderson, Paige Greenawalt, Mitchell Greenawalt, Colin Horn and Devin Horn, 2 sisters: Vivian wife of Sterling Noecher of Bernville, PA and Joyce wife of Forrest Weitzel of Mohnton, PA. He was predeceased by twin grandchildren: Avery Patricia and Declan Joseph Horn and 3 brothers: William, Bruce and John Hess.

A Celebration of Merrill's Life will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at 11:30AM (VIEWING: 9:30AM – 11:30AM) at the Faith Outreach Center Assembly of God Church, 475 Anderson Ferry Rd. Mt. Joy, PA with Pastor Andy Hoover officiating. Private Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and VET 21 Gun Salute. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

John Charles Rutter, Jr., 73, of Marietta, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Rapp) Rutter whom passed away in 2008. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John C., Sr. and Lulu (Seyler) Rutter.

John retired from Amtrak where he was an electrician. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. John volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 35 and was a train enthusiast. He was an avid bowler and bridge player who loved the outdoors and hunting. John was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia.

John leaves behind his sons, John C. Rutter, III. companion of Viki Malone, Marietta and James Rutter, Columbia; his siblings: Delores Eck, Patricia Sperows, Robert Rutter and Thomas Rutter; his grandchildren: Emily, Matthew, Jamison, Hope and Darius and several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

Funeral Services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow with full military honors in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Donald R. Pickle, Sr.

Donald R. Pickle, Sr., of Columbia went to be with the Lord on November 5th, 2018. He was raised in Marietta to the late Roy and Margaret Campbell Pickle. Donald was a graduate of the former Marietta High School with the Class of 1950 and proudly served in the United States Navy in Korea aboard the U.S.S. Stockham DD683. Following his service, he owned Pickle’s Barber Shop in Marietta for thirty years and then started his own hauling business. Donald loved to hunt and fish and even taught his grandchildren how. He was an accomplished artist, musician, and gardener who was proud of his talents. Donald was a member of the N.R.A., American Legion Post 466, and the V.F.W. Post 2435. He will be remembered for his generosity to others and for the love of his family.

Donald adored and was dedicated to his wife for sixty seven years, Jacqueline Helwig Pickle of Columbia. He also leaves behind his children, Donald, Jr., husband of Amy Pickle of Marietta, Jon, husband of Patricia Pickle of Conestoga, Susan, wife of Paul Enrico of Hellam, Julieann, wife of Patrick Davis, Sr. of Mount Joy; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren; his sister, Suzanne, wife of Steven Doles of Seal Beach, CA.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9th, 2018 at Reich’s Evangelical Congregational Church, 338 Stackstown Rd, Marietta, PA 17547. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time.
