Mary Lou Sipe, 79, of Lancaster passed away on November 17th, 2018. She was born in Columbia to the late William H. and Esther Schmook Brommer and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mary Lou was a 1957 graduate of Columbia High School and retired as the supervisor at Jay’s Nest at Elizabethtown College in 2001 after 16 years of service. She enjoyed vacationing in Ocean City, MD since the 1970s, playing bingo, visiting the casino, and shopping. Mary Lou, was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who adored her family.

Lou Lou, as she was affectionately known, was always smiling. She was always willing the help others. She loved to meet new friends, give and receive hugs, and share treats with others, and give small gifts, especially angels. She also loved to travel to see new places and visit family and friends.

She made many friends in Columbia and Wrightsville where she lived nearly all her life. In Wrightsville, she was elected Judge of Elections and worked the polls for years. She was a volunteer for number of organizations including Columbia Meals on Wheels. During her later years, she resided in Trinity House for about 6.5 years until 2016, after selling her home of about 50 years in Wrightsville. While at Trinity House, she enjoyed welcoming many new residents of the building, brightening the building with her cheerful decorations during various holidays, and going to breakfast almost daily at her favorite nearby restaurant, Hinkle’s Restaurant.

During her 16 years working at Elizabethtown College, she loved working with and serving the students. She stayed in touch with students even after graduation and attended some of their weddings.

Mary Lou leaves behind her sons, Jim, husband of Karen Sipe of Lancaster, John Sipe, fiancé of Missy Chronister of York; four grandchildren, Abby, Andy, Anthony, Ally and mother Leah Sipe; great grandchild, Dakota; her siblings: William H. Brommer, Jr., husband of Madeline Brommer; Joanne Stotz, wife of the late Harold Stotz; Linda Cramer, wife of the late Martin Cramer; Jack Brommer, husband of Rosie Brommer; numerous nieces and nephews who knew her as Aunt Lou.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin E. Sipe in 1977; four siblings, Esther Gochenaur, Margaret Ulmer, Janet Bowles, and Wilma Kuhn.

Services for Mary Lou will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at the Clyde W. Kraft funeral Home, 519 Walnut St., Columbia, Pa 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Wrightsville.
