John Charles Rutter, Jr., 73, of Marietta, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Margaret E. (Rapp) Rutter whom passed away in 2008. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John C., Sr. and Lulu (Seyler) Rutter.
John retired from Amtrak where he was an electrician. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. John volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 35 and was a train enthusiast. He was an avid bowler and bridge player who loved the outdoors and hunting. John was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia.
John leaves behind his sons, John C. Rutter, III. companion of Viki Malone, Marietta and James Rutter, Columbia; his siblings: Delores Eck, Patricia Sperows, Robert Rutter and Thomas Rutter; his grandchildren: Emily, Matthew, Jamison, Hope and Darius and several nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
Funeral Services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow with full military honors in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John’s memory to the VA Hospital, 1700 South Lincoln Avenue, Lebanon, PA 17042.
