Elizabeth J. "Betsy" Abreu

She enjoyed spending time and vacationing with family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster PA 17601 on Monday, APRIL 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass.

Burial will follow in Silver Spring Cemetery.

 

Elizabeth J. “Betsy” Abreu, 86 of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at the Lancaster Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Walter R. Abreu with whom she was married 33 years until his death in 2009. Born in Shamokin, PA she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Price Weimer.

Betsy was employed for over 25 years at the Philadelphia Naval Yards and retired from the former Columbia Hospital where she worked in the billing department. She was an active member of St. Leo the Great Church. She enjoyed spending time and vacationing with family. One of her favorite places was Ocean City, NJ where she spent a week every September with them. Betsy and her husband took many trips to Cape May, NJ and Wellsboro, PA to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.

She loved her cat Henry, he was her “buddy.” He was a great comfort to her. She was loved and will be missed by many.

Betsy is survived by her siblings, Robert Bamford (Vicky); Blanche Goodhart; Debra Nissley (Wayne); nephews, Robert Weimer, Jr.; William Weimer; John Goodhart; Stephen Nissley; niece, Leslie Goodhart Byler (Joel) and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two siblings Marian L. Weimer and Robert P. Weimer, Sr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave. Lancaster PA 17601 on Monday, APRIL 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Silver Spring Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
