Barbara C. Obin, 79, of Columbia, PA, formerly of York and Downingtown, passed away on February, 3, 2020 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Andrew S. Obin, Jr. whom she married on June 16, 1962. Born in her home in Haddon Heights, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John and Bertha Volk Canal.

A graduate of Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing, Barb worked as a registered nurse in private practice medicine for many years. After retirement, she was employed as a seamstress by the Perform Group in East Prospect, PA. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Columbia and a lay member of Our Lady's Missionaries of the Eucharist.

Barb loved being outdoors, enjoying nature, sports, and fishing. Also, she enjoyed playing the flute and was a member of the West Chester Alumni Band. She will be remembered for her strong dedication to family and prayer. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

She is survived by her husband Andy, their daughter, Michele Obin; their son, Jeffrey, husband of Gina Marie Obin; grandsons, Gregory and Anthony Obin; brother, John, husband of Elizabeth Canal.

The family will receive friends at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On the following day, Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512, Visitation: 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Elizabeth Joanne Shillow, 89, entered into rest on February 5th, 2020 after a brief illness at Masonic Village where she resided for the past six years. Born in Marietta, Pennsylvania, “Joanne” was the daughter of the late John Anthony Shillow and Sarah Elizabeth Hook Shillow.


After her graduation from Columbia High School, “Joanne” was employed by the Marietta Depot for over ten years, followed by employment as a teller at Dauphin Deposit Bank and Trust Company, and ending with a secretarial position at Wyeth Labs. Joanne was a devoted member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Columbia, PA.

Joanne is survived by two brothers: Joseph, married to Marie Dinkel Shillow; Patrick, married to Sandra Shillow; and sister-in-law, Mary Anne Fischer Shillow. She was preceded in death by the following brothers: John, James, and Edward; her sisters, Mary Shillow Carmichael and Margaret Shillow Elliot. Joanne will be lovingly missed by her 19 surviving nieces and nephews who she loved as her own children. The family would like to thank the staff at Masonic Village for the kind and compassionate care they provided her.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10th, 2020 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 121 S. 2nd St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, February 9th, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Clyde W. Betty Lou Houck, 76, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Henrietta Joe Hershey.

A seamstress for decades in the Paradise, Lancaster County area, Betty was employed at QVC for the past 20 years where she worked in inventory control. She will be remembered as a generous and caring person, who enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling, especially to points out west with Branson, MO one of her favorites. She also was an avid Lancaster Barnstormers fan.

Betty is survived by two sons: Norman L. Houck, Pensacola, FL; Raymond E. Houck, Narvon; grand dog, "Mack"; sisters, Nancy E. wife of Richard Grossman, Ronks and Raynea, wife of Jeffrey Whitehead, Elizabethtown. She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan F. Semple.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the banquet room of the Oregon Dairy, 2900 Oregon Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Robert L. Williams

Bob was an active and devoted member of the Columbia United Methodist Church.

Robert L. Williams, 90, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane (Freeland) Williams, with whom he was married 62 years until her death in 2016. Born in Shenandoah Heights, Schuylkill County, he was the son of the late Robert Peel and Mable Carmitchell Williams.

Along with his brother, Charles, he was part of a second generation to own and operate the former R.P. Williams and Sons, Inc. for 67 years. Bob was an active and devoted member of the Columbia United Methodist Church; served as a Lay Leader of the church for 15 years; head of the Youth Department for 34 years; sang in the church choir and was active in the Christ Servant Ministry. In addition, Bob served on the Administration Board and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

An active member of the Free and Accepted Masons for 70 years, he was the oldest member of the Columbia Blue Lodge, oldest High Priest of the Chapter, Commander of the Commandery, and member of the Zembo Shrine.

He is survived by his sons, Mark, husband of Pamela (Wilt) Williams; John, husband of Marie (Lutz) Williams; grandsons, Gregory, John; granddaughters, Amy, Lauren, Renee; great-granddaughters, Tella, Emme, Lulu, Lila, and Grace. His brother, Charles ‘Chuck" husband of Ruth Ann (Vogt) Williams, also survives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Williams.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the Columbia United Methodist Church, 510 Walnut St., Columbia, PA 17512. Burial will follow in Mount Bethel Cemetery. Friends may view at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers. Sister Marian Russo, ASC, 76, passed away on February 1, 2020 in Ruma, IL. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Marian Strenck Steele and the late Gaston Strenck. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold Steele.

Sister Marian made her first profession as an Adorer of the Blood of Christ in St. Joseph's Convent, Columbia in 1968 and given her religious name as Sister Mary Sebastian. Her ministries included primary school teacher, business class teacher at St. Joseph's Academy, secretarial assignments, administration assistant and convent archivist.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her brother, Arthur Russo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel of St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining convent cemetery. Dennis M. Fritz, 73, of York passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 31st, 2020. He was born in Lancaster to the late Lester and Bernice Fritz and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Dennis attended Columbia High School and graduated from Hempfield High School with the Class of 1964. He proudly served in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Dennis was the former owner of his own company Fabbco before becoming the general manager of Formit Metals. He also was a member of the Mountville Lions Club and the Mountville Fire Company. Dennis enjoyed being outdoors, visiting the beach, and treasured spending time with his family. He was known to always put everyone else first.


Dennis leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Freda Fritz of York; his son Todd, husband of Ellie Fritz of York; three grandchildren, Casey Fritz of Traverse City, MI, Zachary Fritz, and Samantha Fritz both of York; his sister, Deborah McCallin of Dover; his grand-dog, Banner; many friends and family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Fritz.

Wayne A. DeVan

Wayne adored his family and treasured spending time with them, especially at Virginia Beach.

Wayne Alan DeVan, 68, of Landisville passed away on January 29th, 2020. He was born in Windber, PA to the late John, Jr. and Elizabeth DeVan.

Wayne proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam. Following his service, he attended and earned his undergraduate from Penn State University before earning his Master’s Degree, with honors, from Virginia Tech.

Following his education, Wayne became the Director of Public Works for Elizabethtown Boro and served in that role for 42 years until his retirement in June of 2019. He was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was known to be an excellent craftsman with a gift for woodworking. Wayne was a faithful member and volunteer at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church. He adored his family and treasured spending time with them, especially at Virginia Beach.


Wayne leaves behind his wife of almost 34 years, Sherri DeVan of Landisville; his daughters, Kari, wife of Douglas Prendergast of Doylestown, Mallaree DeVan of Landisville; his step-son, David, husband of Michelle Turnquist of California; three grandchildren, Haelee, Emma, and Chloee; his brother, John, husband of Sally DeVan of Virginia Beach, VA; mother-in-law, Shirley Koehler of Hastings, NE; sister-in-law, Lori Koehler of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law, Jim Bedois of Virginia Beach, VA; several nieces and nephews and a large group of family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Jean Debois.


A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1st, 2020 at Mount Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Petersburg Rd, Lititz, PA 17543. Irvin Witmer, Jr., 87, formerly of Manor Township, passed away on January 24, 2020 at Masonic Village where he had resided for the past 15 years. He was the husband of Mary Stoner Witmer; they were married on May 9, 1953. Born in Manor Township, he was the son of the late Irvin D. and Elizabeth Bongart Witmer.

He retired after 40 years of service from the Atlantic Richfield (Sunoco) Company where was employed as a truck driver. After retirement, Irvin worked for Elite Coach as a tour bus driver and for the Manheim Auto Auction. He graduated from the Manor-Millersville High School in 1951 and was member of the F & AM, Lodge #236 where he was a 32nd degree Mason. In addition, he a was a member of the Mountville Lions Club and enjoyed woodworking in the woodshop at Masonic Village.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Carol, wife of Harry Bechtold, Jr.; Cathy, wife of Dean Putt; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty Hoch. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Harry Bechtold, III and his sister, Leonora Groff Herrington.

Funeral services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jan Latshaw officiating. Private interment will be held in the Habecker Mennonite Cemetery. Family and friends may view on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Lena B. Atkins, 96, of Lititz passed away on January 25th, 2020. She was born in Clymer, PA to the late Albert and Martha Shank and was a graduate of Clymer High School with the Class of 1941. Lena loved her home on the Menoher Highway in Johnstown, PA, where she and her husband raised their three children.

Lena then moved to Lancaster County in 2003 following the death of her husband Charles L. Atkins. She lived at the St. John’s Herr Estate for a number of years before spending her final years at Luther Acres. Lena enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and helping others through her volunteering. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured spending time with her family. Lena was a member of Westmont Church of the Brethren and the Menoher Heights Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.


Lena leaves behind her children, Karen, wife of Ronald Michnya of Landisville; Larry, husband of Ramona Atkins of Charlotte, NC; Walter, husband of Denise Atkins of Johnstown, PA; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dale Shank and Ada Stiger.


A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, 2020 in the Chapel at Luther Acres, 600 E. Main St, Lititz, PA 17543. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest at a later date in Pine Flats Cemetery in Indiana County, PA. Elanor J. Eckert, 89, formerly of Mountville, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at St. Anne's Retirement Community where she had resided since April 2019. She was the wife of the late George W. Eckert, Jr. with whom she was married for 67 years until his death in 2017. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Krushinski Horn.

Elanor retired after many years of service from the office of the Harold E. Smith Company, Lancaster. She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia. She will be remembered by her family as a vibrant loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved to dance and being in the company of her family and friends.

Elanor is survived by her daughter, Brenda L. Henry; son-in law, Gregory K. Wagner husband of Vicki; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Horn and his wife Rita. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy J. Wagner and siblings, John and Cletus Horn, Julia Divet and M. Ruth Shenberger.

Doris Fay Trussell of Mennonite Home Community Lancaster passed away peacefully in the early hours of Thursday January 16, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dick.

Born in Gettysburg to J. Marshall Cleveland and Gladys Cleveland, she was the eldest of five siblings.

Doris was a proud retiree of AMP Inc. with over 25 years of service. Doris was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster for many years and spent much time volunteering with many charitable organizations such as Alpha Club of Lancaster and the Water Street Rescue Mission.

A published poet, Doris filled her time at Mennonite Home writing and reflecting on life.

She and Dick enjoyed extensive travel, visiting such countries as Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, England, France as well as a trip sponsored by Radio Beijing, to mainland China in the early 80's.

She is survived by two children, a son, David C., husband of Dannielle (Leeds) Trussell of Landisville, Pa; and a daughter, Diana; two grandsons, Eric D. Trussell of Lebanon, Pa., and Brian T. Trussell of East Petersburg, Pa. and 3 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Phyllis Smith of Michigan and a brother Gerald Cleveland of Florida.

There will be a private family gathering but memorial donations can be made in Doris's memory to the Mennonite Home Benevolent Fund at 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, Pa. 17601.

Justin was known for being a talented carpenter and artist. He enjoyed his music, gaming, and tattooing. Justin was a loving father, son, brother, and uncle who treasured spending time with his family.

Born in Columbia, PA he was the son of Harry and Margaret Glatfelter Misel. David was employed in the Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning business.

He is survived by sons: Mike Misel of Columbia and Matthew Misel of Lancaster, PA and a daughter: Kate Misel of Lancaster, PA. Also surviving are sisters: Donna Hill and Linda Grove both of Columbia, PA., Peggy Shenberger of Washington Boro, PA and Nancy Forbes of Millersville, PA. He was predeceased by a Sister: Rita Schaeffer.

Marian L. Kaufhold, 79, of Columbia passed away on January 16th, 2020. She was born in Columbia to the late Elwood and Mary Ortman Newcomer and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Marian was a homemaker who was known for her sewing, cooking, and baking. She was active in her children’s activities including Girl Scouts and baseball. Marian enjoyed camping with her family and attending social gatherings. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.


Marian leaves behind her husband of 56 years, James A. Kaufhold, Jr. of Columbia; her children, Kimberly, wife of Michael Hammer, Sr. of Windsor, James P. Kaufhold, III, fiancé of Tracy Rettig of Mountville; three grandchildren, Michael, Jr, husband of MaryEllen Hammer of Wrightsville, Codey Hammer, fiancé of Viktoria Fry of Wrightsville, Sean Garbey of Lititz. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four siblings.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Marian’s name to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Carole J. Reisinger, 77, of Marietta passed away on January 16th, 2020. She was born in Columbia to the late James W. and Beatrice Wehner Rice and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Carole enjoyed playing cards, watching horse racing and visiting casinos, and travelling to the mountains. She supported animals and loved spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews.


Carole leaves behind her partner of more than forty years, Sandy “Bertie” DeVerter of Marietta; her sisters, Patsy, wife of Earl Binkley of Vermillion, OH, Joan Segesser of Marietta, Linda, wife of Butch Paris of Marietta; numerous nieces and nephews; her canine companion, Mattie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Arlene Groff, James Rice, Mary Ann Geesey, Jack Rice, and Michael Rice.


Services for Carole will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 20th, 2020 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Marietta Cemetery. Mildred H. McCarty, 90, of Marietta passed away on January 16th, 2020. She was born in Marietta to the late Albert A. and Freda Hauser Walters and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Millie was a graduate of the former Maytown High School with the Class of 1947 where she was a cheerleader. She worked for many years in the claims department at Donegal Mutual Insurance Company before her retirement.

Millie enjoyed baking and playing cards. Her love in life were her cats Ollie, Cuddles, Cubby and Precious, her church, Community Bible Church, and her family. She was involved with her children’s activities and served as a den mother in Cub Scouts and in the P.T.A. She adored her children and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured spending time with them.


Millie leaves behind her children, Ruth, wife of Anthony Simione of Dagsboro, DE, Butch, husband of Suzette McCarty of Mount Joy, Ron McCarty of Marietta, Mike, husband of Cindy McCarty of Marietta; six grandchildren, Andy, Andrea, Kyle, Derek, Shawn, and Scott, fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Laura Bish of Marietta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Duke” McCarty in 1988 and two siblings, Vernie McLain and Wick Walters.


Services for Millie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 20th, 2020 at Community Bible Church, 331 Anderson Ferry Rd, Marietta, PA 17547. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Maytown Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Community Bible Church, c/o the Memorial Scholarship Fund.

An avid Steelers fan, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but enjoyed being with his family and friends the most, especially his granddaughters.

Gilbert B. Zink, 60, of York, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care. He was the husband of Melody Barnett Zink with whom he was married 39 years. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Dale Keller and Beatrice Zink who survives.

A retired truck driver, he was employed for 22 years at A. Duie Pyle Transportation Co. He was an avid Steelers fan, enjoyed fishing and hunting, but enjoyed being with his family and friends the most, especially his granddaughters.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Lynette Zink; Zachary Zink; Arron Zink and five granddaughters.

A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, 845 Laurel Hill Road, Columbia PA 17512.

Kenneth V. Mable

Ken was a fun-loving man, and was always there for his family and friends.

Kenneth V. Mable, 78, of Wrightsville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Sunday, January 12, 2020. He was the husband of the late Jane Hanrahan Mable, with whom he was married 48 years until her death in 2011. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Thomas and Martha Bisker Mable.

Ken retired in 1997 after a lifetime career at Armstrong World Industries. In addition, he owned and operated Mable Printing and Graphics. 

He was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Columbia and was particularly active in the Holy Name Society having been presented the “Man of the Year”.  Ken was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 2294, Columbia; Columbia Fraternal Association; V.F.W. Post 7045, York and the American Legion Post 469, Wrightsville.

Ken was a fun-loving man, and was always there for his family and friends. Anyone who knew Ken has been blessed with fond memories.

Ken is survived by his children, Kenneth T. Mable, husband of Lori; Deborah L. Mable; Michael S. Mable, husband of Laura; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Jean, wife of Larry Smith; Josie, wife of Robert Engle and George Mable, husband of JoAnn. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Thomas Mable and Mary Maurer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St. Columbia PA 17512 on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. There will be no public viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass.

Paul Edward Stark

Paul will be remembered for his hard work and his witty sense of humor.

Paul Edward Stark, 97, of Mount Joy passed away at his residence on October 8th, 2019. He was born in Princeton, NJ to the late Harry A. and Mary Skillman Stark. Paul was a graduate of Princeton High School with the Class of 1941 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He worked as an assembly line foreman for 44 years at Mack Trucks before his retirement in 1988. Paul also owned and managed Stark’s Orchard in Shippensburg from 1963 – 2006. He was known to be handy and was able to sew, remodel, work with wood, and fix just about anything. Paul will be remembered for his hard work and his witty sense of humor.

Paul leaves behind his sons, Richard Paul Stark of Shippensburg, Jim, husband of Vikki stark of Mount Joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred L. Stark in 2017; three brothers and a sister.
