Never missed any of his grandchildren’s events

John M. Smith, 82 of Lititz, formerly of Lancaster and Mt. Gretna, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 7th, 2019 at Luther Acres retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late J. Mason and Nora Smith. John was the husband of Margaret (Peg) Humbel Smith. They were married on September 5th, 1959 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. John was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Elizabethtown College, and Temple University. He was a retired high school business teacher and taught his first five years at Octorara High School before teaching for another thirty-five years at Conestoga Valley High School. In addition to his classroom duties at Conestoga Valley High, he was responsible for the school store for thirty years and coached boys tennis for eleven years. As a former resident of Mt. Gretna, John, along with his wife, became very involved in the community activities of the Chautauqua where they resided. John was also an avid tennis player for many years. He was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America and very active in his grandchildren’s lives. John never missed any of their activities or events.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sister, Pat, wife of the late Rev. Dale Groff of York; a daughter, Julia, wife of Paul Stevenson of Hanover; a son, Timothy, husband of Sara Smith of Centreville, VA; six grandchildren, Daniel, husband of Allison Smith, Christopher Smith, Samuel Smith, Joshua, husband of Liz Stevenson, Jaimee Stevenson, Margaret Stevenson; one great grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Creeda Pickell.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6th, 2019 in the Luther Acres Community Room, 250 St. Luke Drive, Lititz, PA 17543. There will be no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Please come as you are. Anna Mae Montalvo, 80, of Columbia passed away on June 8th, 2019 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was born in Lancaster to the late Charles and Martha Kibler and was a lifelong resident of this area. Anna was a graduate of Donegal High School and worked at R & S Manufacturing for many years until her retirement. She treasured time with her family.

Anna leaves behind her children, Rose, wife of Josef Gernand of Columbia, Ed Montalvo, Sr. of Lancaster; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Anna was the last of her immediate family.

A celebration of Anna’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17th, 2019 at Columbia Church of God, 39 N 7th St, Columbia, PA 17512. Pastor Fred Thomas will officiate. Elementary School Teacher for Thirty-Five Years

Clarissa M. Wolcott, 83, of Columbia, passed away on June 6th, 2019 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. She was born in Williamsport, PA to the late Donald E. and Viola M. Wolcott and lived in Columbia since she was six years old. Clarissa attended Columbia Schools and graduated from Columbia High School with the Class of 1953. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Millersville State Teacher’s College and taught elementary school in the Lancaster School District for thirty five years.

Clarissa was a member of the former Cookman Methodist Church, Columbia United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Columbia Public Library Board, Columbia Tree Society, Columbia Historic Preservation Society, Henry Wolcott Society, P.S.E.A. (Retired), P.A.S.R. (Retired), Susquehanna Angel Collectors Club, Witness Tree Chapter D.A.R., the former Columbia Woman’s Club, The Iris Club of Lancaster. Clarissa taught Sunday School for fifty two years and volunteered at the George Ross School in Lancaster. She is survived by her cousins and many friends.

Services for Clarissa will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18th, 2019 at Columbia United Methodist Church, 510 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. She will lie in state beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Rev. Tom Grubbs will officiate. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. Treasured time with her family and babysat many children in Columbia.

Martha M. Jones, 90, of Columbia passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 7th, 2019. She was born in Kinderhook to the late Alfred Altland and Estella Barton and was a lifelong resident of this area. Martha treasured time with her family and babysat many children in Columbia over the years including her own children and grandchildren. Martha was a faithful member of Eastside Bible Church in Wrightsville.

Martha leaves behind her children, Roy, husband of Bonnie Jones of Columbia, Bob, husband of Marian Jones of Columbia, Marion, wife of the late Ralph Freeland, Jr. of Columbia, Rose, wife of Sam Brewer of Marietta, Janet Jones, wife of the late Howard Martzall of Columbia; ten grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, and sixteen great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul Jones in 1998, her daughter, Juanita Steffy, and three siblings.

Services for Martha will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14th, 2019 at Eastside Bible Church, 1035 Adams Rd, Wrightsville, PA 17368. Pastor Randy Panebaker will officiate. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park. Charlotte J. "Sis" O'Reilly, 80, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at home. She was the wife of the late James W. O'Reilly, Sr. with whom she was married 56 years until his death in 2014. A lifelong Columbia resident, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. and Cathleen Hartz Bransby.

A Lancaster Catholic High School graduate, she was a homemaker and earlier in her life was employed at the Susquehanna Glass Company.

She is survived by her sons, James W. O'Reilly, Jr.; Patrick P. O'Reilly; Shawn B. O'Reilly; granddaughter, Kelsie B. O'Reilly and a brother, Richard G. Sr. husband of Margaret Bransby, and numerous nieces and nephews. A grandson, Cody Campbell and brother, Paul C. Bransby, Jr. preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, PA on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, officiating. Clarence Lee King, 77, of Washington Boro passed away on May 27 th ,
2019. He was born in Washington Boro to the late Clarence Herman
and Bertha Walk King and was a lifelong resident of this area. Clarence
was a graduate of Penn Manor High School and worked for more than
forty years for Alcoa. He was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed
bluegrass music, antiquing, and yard sales. Clarence was easy going,
well liked, and a faithful member of Washington Boro United Methodist
Church.

Clarence leaves behind his wife of twenty-nine years, Yolanda King of
Washington Boro; his children, Carol, wife of Gary Adams of Diana, TX, Brian, husband of Petra King of Washington Boro; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Glenn J. "Sonny" Mull, Jr.

Diehard Eagles & Phillies fan who loved coaching his sons in baseball and wrestling.

Glenn J. "Sonny" Mull, Jr., 60, of Mount Joy, passed unexpectedly, doing what he enjoyed most, working in his garden. He was the husband of Dawn Styer Mull, his wife of ten years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Glenn J. Sr. and Joyce Williams Mull.

A 1977 graduate of Donegal High School, Sonny was employed at Armstrong Flooring for the past ten years and worked previously for Wilton Armetale. He was a diehard fan of the Eagles and Phillies, amateur wrestling, riding his Harley and coaching his sons in baseball and wrestling. He also loved animals and leaves behind his canine family, Nash, Nadie, Mikey and Bailey.

He is survived by his wife Dawn, sons, Josh and Alex Mull; an expected grandson; sister, Deb (Dave) Cunningham, brother Jeff (Karla) Mull; mother of his sons, Kathy Butzer; sisters-in-law, Luann Pearson, Linda Lockard and Kathy Styer; mother-in-law Joyce Styer, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, May 28th from 12-6 p.m. at Ironville Community Park. Casual dress or Philadelphia sportswear.

Dorothy Jane DeVerter McCarty, 91, of Columbia passed away on May 21st, 2019. She was born in Lancaster to the late Paul, Sr. and Lillian Koch DeVerter and was a lifelong resident of this area. Dorothy graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School with the Class of 1945. For many years, she was active with the Columbia Borough Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Whether it was attending various sporting events or having family dinners, Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt who treasured time with family.

Dorothy leaves behind her children, Elmer E. “Bud”, Jr. husband of Kathy McCarty of Salunga, Patti, wife of Joe Schauren of Columbia, Diane, wife of Alfred “Bud” Yohe of Columbia; seven grandchildren, Nicole, Joey, Krista, Mark, Eric, Tricia, Kevin; eleven great grandchildren, Justin, Kristin, Sami, A.J., Brianna, Gavin, Gabe, Sophie, Brady, Quinn, Nolan; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. John K. (Tim) Reitzel

Proudly Served in the United States Army

A private military service will be held at Ft Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Friday, May 24.

John K. (Tim) Reitzel passed away peacefully on May 19, 2019, at age 89. He was the son of the late Jacob and Rosanna (Aston) Reitzel. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Torbert), his daughter Amy, wife of Jim Swartz, and his son John, husband of Wendy. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jeff Barninger, Zachary Reitzel and Alexandra (Reitzel) Mazza. He was preceded in death by his sisters Elizabeth Cooper and Stephanie Groft.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Following his service, he worked at Hamilton Watch, Olmstead Air Force Base, and ITT Grinnell. He will best be remembered for his love and dedication to his family.

A private military service will be held at Ft Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Friday, May 24. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Katie Gochenaur Smith, 35, of Columbia passed away surrounded by her loving family on May 10th, 2019 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lancaster to Steve and Jenny Gochenaur and was a lifelong resident of this area. Katie was a graduate of Hempfield High School with the Class of 2002 and went on to graduate from Millersville University in 2008. She began her teaching career as the art teacher at Columbia High School before putting that on hold to raise her family. Katie enjoyed visiting the beaches of south Jersey and Maryland with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend who treasured spending time with her family.

Katie leaves behind her husband, Nate Smith; her children, Hudson and Tenley Smith; her parents, Steve and Jenny Gochenaur; brother, Tom, husband of Angie Gochenaur; mother and father-in-law, Hub and Deb Smith; brother-in-law, Dave Smith; sisters-in-law, Rachael, wife of Rob Kedney and Morgan Smith; nephew and niece to be, Devon and Ophelia Gochenaur; her best friend, Rachael Arnold; a large extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Cooper Thomas Smith.

Services for Katie will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. Earl C. Schlotthauer, 72, of Columbia passed away on May 6th, 2019. He was born in Lancaster to the late Chester and Renata Bigler Schlotthauer and was a lifelong resident of this area. Earl graduated from Hempfield High School with the Class of 1965 and worked for fifty years at Alcoa Mill Products as an electrician. He enjoyed visiting Hershey Park, renaissance fairs, and concerts at American Music Theater. He was passionate about photography and collecting electronics. Earl was a loving brother and uncle who treasured time with his family.

Earl leaves behind his brothers, Paul and Alan Schlotthauer of Columbia; his nephews, Matt, husband of Amanda Schlotthauer of Columbia, Joseph, husband of Carin Schlotthauer of Klamath Falls, OR; three grandnieces/nephews, Abigail, Cayden, and Liam Schlotthauer. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Edmund A. Wickenheiser, Jr.

Retired News Director of WGAL and Retired USMC Veteran with 38 years of active & reserve service.

Edmund A. Wickenheiser, Jr., 80, of Columbia, passed away on May 6, 2019 at Landis Homes after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Susan Conrad Wickenheiser with whom he was married 49 years until her death in 2011.

A proud and lifelong Columbian, he was the son of the late Edmund A. Sr. and Patricia Faltin Wickenheiser. Ed was a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and later attended Franklin and Marshall College taking professional courses in business and management. He started his radio and television career beginning at WCOY, WGAL Radio, WSBA Radio where he worked as a journalist, news director, and operations manager. He was the news director at WGAL-TV for 21 years before retiring in 2000 to spend time with his family.

Among his many professional awards and honors, he received five Emmy's from the National Academy of Arts and Science – Philadelphia Chapter while news director at WGAL-TV. Ed was a member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association; Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcasters Association serving as its President from 1997 thru 1998 and the Lancaster Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

He enlisted in the USMC in 1956 and served three tours of active duty with the Marines during the Cold war, Vietnam and during the Persian Gulf War. He retired in 1994 as a Chief Warrant officer-4 with 38 years of combined active and reserve service. Among his many Military decorations Ed was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon; Meritorious Unit Citation w/two stars; Organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal w/seven stars; Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/TWO Hour Glass devices and the "M" device and the South West Asia Medal w/one star. He was a Life member of the Marine Corps League-Detachment #294 and the Lancaster Chapter, Military Officers Association of America.

Ed was a devoted and active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector and Choir member. Among serving on various committees and councils, he was active in the Holy Name Society and received it's "Man of the Year" in 2003. Ed was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2294; served as Grand Knight (1963-64); served as District Deputy, District 39 (1969) was a member of the Santa Maria Assembly 915 and the CWV Post 1306.

He earned the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of Post 335, Explorer Scouts and was a merit badge counselor for the Lancaster-Lebanon Boy Scout Council. Ed's civic affiliations include serving 17 years at the Lancaster County Hospital Authority; Local Emergency Planning Committee; County of Lancaster Emergency Management Agency; Columbia Boro Disaster Plan Committee and the Lancaster County Counter Terrorism Task Force.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen wife of Phil Heckert; grandchildren, Eric husband of Ginger, Brian husband of Carli and Todd and friend Courtney. His brothers, Bernard Wickenheiser, Michael Wickenheiser husband of Trisha Webster and very special friend, Lucy Fox.

The Wickenheiser family would like to express their deep appreciation to all the staff of Landis Homes for the excellent care and support given to Ed and themselves during his stay there.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia PA 17512 on Saturday, May 11, 2019 promptly at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. Burial will follow with military honors in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Ed's memory to Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Harold P. Hoak, Jr.

Husband, Father, Grandpa and Friend.

Harold P. Hoak, Jr., of Columbia, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 28th, 2019 surrounded by his family, whom he loved very much. He spent three months fiercely battling the complications from a stroke. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Harold P. Hoak, Sr. and Dorothy M. McAllister Hoak. Harold graduated from Penn Manor High School with the Class of 1963. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Vietnam War from 1965 - 1967, receiving many commendations for his expert marksmanship in combat. He was employed by R.E. Friedly as a cabinetmaker and by ITT Industries as a machine operator, retiring in 2014 after 34 years. Harold enjoyed hunting especially in Potter County. He was a member of the Columbia Fish and Game, American Legion Post 372, Life Member NRA and the VFW Post 8757. He enjoyed watching Phillies baseball and Notre Dame football.

Harold is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julie Wickenheiser Hoak; his son, Stephen H. Michael Scott Wilkinson, 59, of Columbia passed away on April 27th, 2019. He was born in Columbia to the late George and Mary Zink Wilkinson and was a life long resident of this area. Scott attended Donegal High School and was a jack-of-all trades that worked for himself. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. Scott adored his family and though he was known to be stubborn, he will be remembered for his sense of humor.

Scott leaves behind his daughters, Kelly Wilkinson, companion of Cosme Muniz, Jr. of Mountville, Crystal Wilkinson, companion of Michael Davis of Elizabethtown; three grandchildren and one on the way, Ayliciana, Ivan, and Julian; six siblings, Diane O'Brien, wife of Curt O'Brien of Columbia, Donna Derstler, companion of Gary Cook of Columbia, Barry Wilkinson of Columbia, Gary Wilkinson of Mount Joy, Greg Wilkinson of Mount Joy, Dave Wilkinson and wife of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Bethann in 1981 and a nephew, David P. Smith in 2006.

In honor of Scott’s final wishes, he will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Charles U. Odenwalt, Jr., "Chuck," 57, of Mount Joy, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2019. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Charles U. Sr. and Eula Mae Thomas Odenwalt.

Chuck was a graduate of Donegal High School, Class of 1980 and was employed for a number of years at Wilton Armetale, Nordstrom and Haines Pure Protein. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, loved animals, watching vintage cartoons and TV shows, country music, Ocean City, MD, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and holidays. He was also a member of the Florin Fire Department.

He is survived by his siblings, James Odenwalt; Earl Stotz; Virginia, wife of Amos Zuck and Jean Odenwalt. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing at the Clyde W. Linda Marie Weibley, 66, of Landisville passed away on April 18th, 2019. She was born in Lancaster to the late James and Jean Lawrence Graybill. Linda was a graduate of Hempfield High School with the Class of 1971. She worked for many years for Peerless Hardware as a machinist. Linda treasured time with her family, many friends, and her grand-dogs. She attended Church of God of Landisville.

Linda leaves behind her son-in-law, Dennis Eshleman of East Petersburg; two grandchildren, Amber Eshleman, companion of Adam Kramer of Newmanstown, Robert Eshleman, fiancé of Lisa Denlinger of Holtwood; two sisters, Debbie Graybill of Columbia, Evelyn, wife of Fred Greenya of Columbia; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family; six grand-dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Weibley in 2018, her daughter Tammy Eshleman in 2016, and two brothers.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. John H. Raber

U.S. Navy Veteran, proudly served during WWII in Pacific Theater Operations.

John H. Raber, 92, of Marietta, formerly of Chester, VA passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at home. He was the husband of the late Minnie Hamilton Raber with whom he was married 58 years until her death in 2006. Born in Bainbridge, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Elizabeth Engle Raber.

A U.S. Navy veteran, John proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He retired after 41 years of the service from the Department of Defense, Richmond VA. He previously worked at the former Marietta and Middletown Depots. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marietta, he was also a member of the F&AM #94, Chester, VA and enjoyed playing pinochle.

He is survived by his sisters, Frances Cranford, Rose McNaughton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene, Bobby, Paul, Helen, Sally, Jenny, Edith, Grace and Pauline.

Funeral services will be held from the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1290 River Road, Marietta, PA 17547 on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Traci Benditz Glover, officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Silver Spring Cemetery. Family and friends may view at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John's memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
