Columbia - Vernon M. "Ike" Blumenshine, 95, of Columbia passed away on September 16th, 2018. He was born in manor Township to the late Leon and Ruth Young Blumenshine. Ike was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 1941. During his time at CHS, he was co-captain of the 1940 football team that defeated John Harris 7-6 for the first time. Ike also excelled in track and field and was the PA state champion in low hurdles in 1941. He was later inducted into the Columbia/Susquehanna Valley Sports Hall of Fame. Ike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He began a career in banking as a teller and retired as the bank manager after 41 years of service from Hamilton Bank (Central Nat'l Bank). Ike also served as treasurer of Central Manor Campmeeting for 24 years and attended Washington Boro and Columbia Church of God.

Ike leaves behind his children, Darlene, wife of Richard Copello of York, Brenda Spingarn of Stockton, NJ, Byron Blumenshine of York, Pamela Herr of Elizabeth City, NC; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Chaney Blumenshine in 2014, and five siblings.

Services for Ike will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 20th, 2018 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St. Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial with full military honors will follow at Washington Boro Cemetery.
