Jack C. Heitz, 96, of Columbia died peacefully on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary I. Harmon Heitz who passed away in 1974 and his second wife Daisy Heitz who passed away in 1996.  Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Carrie Heitz and was raised by his foster father Theodore Sides of Columbia.

For most of his life, Jack “Pap” was a truck driver who loved country music, dancing, and Penn State Football. Every Wednesday for over 30 years, he enjoyed playing pinochle with his mountain buddies. Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII serving in the European Theater of Operations receiving 3 Bronze Stars and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. Jack was the oldest volunteer Fireman for the former Susquehanna Fire Company now known as the Columbia Borough Fire Department. He was a member of the Red Rose Memorial Post 2435 VFW and the American Legion Post 469 in Wrightsville. For many years, he was a Baseball Coach for the CBAA program. He also served on the School Board of the Columbia Borough School District for 8 years and was recognized by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association for his service.

Surviving are the following. Daughters: Mary Ellen wife of John Montgomery of Alta Loma, CA and Jacqueline K. Markley of Craley, PA. Grandchildren: Chad Montgomery, Kelly (Markley) Ressel and Cory Markley. Great-Grandchildren: Jacob Montgomery, Abigail Montgomery, Elizabeth Markley, Molly Montgomery, Kyle Montgomery and Landen Markley.  Step-Children:  Warren Wolf, William Wolf, Charles McNaughton, John McNaughton, Verna McNaughton, Joyce Wilkinson and Paula Rapp, 16 Step-Grandchildren, 13 Step-Great-Grandchildren and 1 Step-Great-Great Grandchild. He was predeceased by his Sister Dorothy. The family would like to acknowledge the special care that was given to Jack by his Step-Son Bud Wolf and his wife Kathy and his Step-Granddaughter Meagan Rapp.

Memorial Services for Jack will be held from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00AM with Rev. Mark Kopp officiating. Wayne Schock, 94, of Conestoga passed away on January 20th, 2022. He was born in Washington Boro to the late Rebecca Schock and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Wayne proudly served in the U.S. Army and was also a farmer. He then worked at the former ITT Grinnell (Anvil) until his eventual retirement. Following his retirement, Wayne worked John Herr’s Village Market in Millersville. He was a faithful member of Manor Church.

Wayne leaves behind his children, Brenda Melhorn of Moore, OK, Rodney, husband of Peggy Schock of Red Lion, Dennis Schock of Conestoga, Darryl Schock of York, Dwayne Schock of Ohio; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Schock in 1989.

Patricia J. Shertzer, 91, of Landisville passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15th, 2022 at Oak Leaf Manor North Retirement Community. She was the wife of the late Samuel W. Shertzer. Patty, as she was affectionately known by her caring staff at Oak Leaf, was the daughter of the late David W. and Minnette S. Dorwart of Lancaster.

In her youth, she would hitchhike to Aberdeen, MD to dance the night away with her best friend Shirley Miller, wife of Chubb of Lancaster. Patty also enjoyed all things Elvis and loved cats.

Patty leaves behind her children, Lori, wife of Shawn Patterson of Ephrata, Debra, wife of Bruce Denlinger of Landisville, David, husband of Sandra Christian of Mount Joy; five grandchildren, Jeremy Patterson of Mount Joy, Brooke Denlinger of Delmont, Kayla Sablosky of Doylestown, Alysha Christian of Winston-Salem, NC, Cory Christian of Phoenixville; and two great grandchildren, Eliza and Mallory Christian of Phoenixville.

Fred J. Smith, Sr., 93, of Columbia, passed away at home on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was the husband of the late Nancy Krow Smith with whom he was married 70 years until her death in 2018. Born in Marietta, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Clara Peters Smith.

Fred retired in 1993 after 45 years of service from PP&L where he worked as a lineman. Fred was a veteran of the Korean War in the U.S Army and the Army National Guard. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. In addition, he belonged to the Catholic War Veterans Post 1306; American Legion Post 372; Amvets Post 153; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2435; Foresters of America Susquehanna Court 235; Columbia Fish and Game Association and the Columbia Fraternal Association.

He is survived by two sons, Steven M. Smith (Dee); Fred J. Smith, Jr. (Susan); seven grandchildren and numerous grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. The last of his immediate family he ws preceded in death by his siblings, Charles J., Paul J., Sara Anne Goodhart and Mary Lou Jones.

Lynn M. Smith, 64, of Lancaster, passed away January 5, 2022, peacefully at home after a battle with cancer. Born in Jersey City, NJ, Lynn settled in Lancaster where she worked for the Office of Aging for nearly 30 years. She was very devoted to her career, eventually earning a position as Deputy Director.

Lynn was especially devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael, and four daughters: Amanda (Matt) Joline, Katelyn (Derek) Martin, Rebecca (William) Zawisa, and Sarah Smith. She was a loving Nana to her four grandchildren as well. Lynn is also survived by siblings Paul (Cathy) Zanowski, Peter Zanowski, Sue (Bob) Gilland, and Meghan (John) Campbell.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home in Landisville, followed by interment at St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will take place starting at 10:00 AM. Virginia L. Gambler, 93, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community where she had resided for the past 18 months. She was the wife of the late Robert M. Gambler who preceded her in death in 1996. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence L. and Bertha Clark Bridges.

A 1946 graduate of Columbia High School, Ginny retired from Armstrong World Industries in 1988 where she was employed as a receptionist for 25 years of service. After retirement, she began Ginny’s Dog Grooming business.

A member of the Ironville United Methodist Church, she enjoyed listening to big band music, dancing, particularly the Jitterbug, the company of her pets, traveling throughout the states attending Bob’s USS Bataan reunions, meeting his ex-Navy mates, making new friends. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family especially on holidays and special occasions.

A special thanks to Ginny’s neighbors where she lived the past 33 years for lending a helping hand caring for her when needed and to the staff of St. Anne’s Retirement Community for their kindness and excellent care given to her during her stay there.

She is survived by her children: Gerald L. Paules, Jr., Thomas F. Paules (Melanie), Ricky L. Paules (Donna), Melissa A. Lewis (Dan); step children Ken Gambler (Sharon), Rick Gambler (Peg), Renee Wagner (Jim), Lois Levi (Arkady), Gail Gilbert (Warren); grandchildren: Andrew (Shannon), David and Hallie Paules, Janelle Harding (Matthew); step grandchildren: Jensen (Stacy) and Talon Lewis, Alyssa Roth, Brianna Wagner, Gregory Gambler and numerous other step grandchildren; great grandchildren: Milo Kerns, Brayden Paules and numerous other step great grandchildren. She always enjoyed seeing everyone in her extended family. Her son Stephen W. Paules, grandson Randall T. Paules and a special cousin Clark Gabriel preceded her in death.

Waltraud Ella Geltmacher, passed away January 4th, 2022 at the age of 92 years. Waltraud was known to her friends and family as Vickie.

She was born and raised in Berlin, Germany. Vickie met her future husband, Harry L. Geltmacher, when he was stationed in Germany while serving the United States Army. Vickie traveled at the age of twenty-three years to the United States and married Harry where they lived in Columbia, PA. Harry preceded her in death in 2004. Vickie earned her United States citizenship in 1957 and was employed as a seamstress at a local sewing factory. In December Vickie celebrated her 92nd birthday at St. Anne’s Retirement Community with a cake and balloons. For several years Vickie enjoyed the services of Columbia Meals on Wheels and the kind delivery staff. Much appreciation to St. Anne’s Retirement Community Staff for Vickie’s most recent care and for the rehoming of her beloved parakeet, Heidi. Vickie is survived by a brother-in-law, Daniel Geltmacher.

Jeffrey N. Mull, Sr., 59, of Landisville, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Karla Martin Mull with whom he was married 39 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Glenn J., Sr. and Joyce Williams Mull.

A truck driver for 35 years, he was employed at Gro-Mor Plant Food Company, Leola and had previously been employed by New Penn Trucking Company. Jeff was a member of the Teamsters Local 771, Lancaster and attended the York Campus of LCBC. He was a member of the Elstonville Sportsman’s Club and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Jeff enjoyed tending to his backyard Koi fish Pond, his pet dogs, riding his motorcycle and spending time at the beach with his family and friends. A friend to all, he particularly loved spoiling his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife are his children, Jeffrey N. Mull, Jr. husband of Jennifer Mull; Tiffany wife of Mark Campbell; grandchildren, Savannah and Ashtyn Mull; Iyana, Aaliyah and Mya Campbell; sister, Debra wife of Dave Cunningham and mother-in-law Estella Mason. Glenn E. Keller, Sr., 89, of Columbia, passed away on Monday afternoon, December 20, 2021 at Penn Medicine, Lancaster General Health. He was the husband of Donna St. John Keller with whom he was married 31 years. Born in Wrightsville, he was the son of the late George and Pauline Kinard Keller.

For over 60 years, Glenn owned and operated Keller’s Body Shop, Keller’s Towing and Keller’s Used Cars in addition to other business endeavors. Glenn’s first passion from his business was Dirt Track Racing in the Super Sportsman Division where he fielded race cars for many years. He also had a passion for restoring antique and classic cars

He was a Lifetime Member of the Susquehanna Beneficial Association and the Forresters’ of America, Susquehanna Court 235.

In addition to his wife Donna are his children, Glenn E. Keller, Jr. companion of Sonja Mittel; Michael G. Keller husband of Glenda; Judy A. wife of Keith Lenker; Kay M. wife of Bob Innocent; Sharon M. Keller; Charles Andrew Fritz husband of Gianna; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His brother Baron Keller preceded him in death.

Scott Keith Fisher, 61, of Lancaster died on December 16, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Deborah (Stotz) Fisher for 42 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie, wife of Hans Gehman and two grandsons, Friedrich and Efraim. He is also survived by his step father James Gates, his brother, Jeffrey Fisher, and his sister Wanda Barr. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet (Habecker) Gates and father, Paul Richard Fisher, Jr.

Scott graduated from Warwick High School, class of 1979. A machinist, he was employed by LSC Communications of Lancaster for 35 years. Scott enjoyed time with family, automobile collectibles, attending Men’s Frat at LCBC, and fishing. He will be missed by his dogs, Meg and Paige.

Paul R. Funk, III, 59, of Dover passed away on December 19th, 2021. He was born in Lancaster to the late Paul, Jr. and Dorothy Fryberger Funk.

Paul was an outdoorsman who was active in hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed repairing bicycles, watching tv and western movies. Paul was a truck driver and most recently worked with J.B. Hunt. He was also a lifetime member of the Lancaster County CB Radio Club. Paul was a faithful member of Carlisle Evangelical Free Church.

Paul leaves behind his wife of twenty years, Kim Barrett Funk of Dover and formerly of Columbia; seven children, Jason Funk (Julie) of Susquehanna, Heather Funk of Mahoney City, Crystal Sweigart of New Cumberland, Paul R. Funk, IV (Danielle) of Adamstown, Brandon Funk (Amanda) of Adamstown, Todd Odenwalt (Lisa) of Lancaster, Amanda Nearhoof (Josh) of Dalmatia; ten grandchildren, Jasmine, Jason, Jr., Bryce, Breanna, Kaylee, Cora, Paxton, Morgan, Ash, and Caylee; two brothers, Donald Funk (Pam) and Nelson Funk (Joy) both of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. Larry L. Kise, 84, of Columbia, PA, passed away on Friday, December 17, 2021. He was the son of the late Cedric and Mary (Gillette) Kise, and the husband of the late Jeannette Y. (Moore) Kise, to whom he was married for 64 years. He is survived by a large family.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired as a truck driver and member of the bridge crew from Penn Dot after 22 years. He was a member of various clubs and organizations, including the OWLS, Catholic War Vets, American Legion, VFW, and the Lower Club. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in Juniata County, PA.

She was born in Windsor Township to the late Harry and Mary Dietz Landis and was a lifelong resident of this area.   Nan was a wonderful cook and most well known for her macaroni salad, deviled eggs, pumpkin pie, ham potpie, and chocolate cake with peanut butter fudgy icing.  She was also well known for her thoughtfulness.

Wrightsville – Pauline Marie “Nan” Hammer of Wrightsville was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She left this world suddenly on December 14, 2021 at the age of 81.  She was preceded in death by her parents Elwood and Sadie Fisher, brother Bill Fisher, and devoted husband, James G. Hammer.

Nan enjoyed being a homemaker keeping her home spotless and decorated to the nines for every holiday of the year.  She also spent much of her free time with family and tending to her grandchildren and, more recently, her great-grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook and most well known for her macaroni salad, deviled eggs, pumpkin pie, ham potpie, and chocolate cake with peanut butter fudgy icing.  She was also well known for her thoughtfulness.  Family and friends received greeting cards for all occasions throughout the year by mail with lovely words underscored.

Nan is survived by her children, Gregory J., husband of Jeanne; Wendy D., wife of Shawn Aungst; Randy D., husband of Melissa; four grandchildren, Kirsten (fiancée of Brad Kreider), Megan (fiancée of Justin Stone), Ryan and Kelsey; and three great-granddaughters, Aubrey Rose; Karley and Marisa.  Also surviving is her sister, S. Catherine Smuck.

A memorial service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Thursday, December 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp, officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service.

 Catherine Ruth Rode Drescher, 89, of Columbia, went home to be with her Lord on Friday morning, December 17, 2021 at Susquehanna Health and Wellness Center. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Blanche (Shive) Rode. Catherine was the loving wife of the late Robert Clyde Drescher, Sr.

Catherine worked at the bake shop on Walnut Street in Columbia until it’s eventual closing. She was known to many children as “The Cookie Lady”. She then worked at Rite Aid in Columbia until her retirement in 1997. Catherine was a kind and generous person all of her life. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and will be spending Christmas with Jesus.

Catherine will be missed by her son, Bob Drescher, Jr. and his wife, Sally; and by her daughter Annie Strickler and her husband, Harry. She is survived by 4 grandchildren, Margie Moran, Harry Strickler, Jr., Jeremy Strickler, and Robert C. Drescher, III.; 7 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace (Rode) Brandt. 

Services for Catherine will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 27th, 2021 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. Barbara Jean “Mom-Mom” Haines, 63, of Washington Boro, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021. She was the wife of Eugene B. Haines, Jr. with whom she was married 46 years. Born in Lancaster, she ws the daughter of the late William R. Jr. and Dorothy Rowe Killian.

Barb retired in 1999 from QVC, Lancaster, where she was employed as a quality control supervisor. In her post retirement years, she worked as a school bus driver for the Red Lion Bus Company and Rolling Hills Transit. Along with her husband, she was an active member of the Amvets Post 19, VFW Post 2435 and the Columbia United Veterans Council.

In addition to her husband are her children, Belinda Wright (Kevin); Jean Joy (Robert); Cora Franklin (Zachary Allen); Wayne Franklin (Shannan); Cody Franklin; 12 grandchildren; one great granddaughter; brothers, William Killian (Tracey); Carl Killian; Larry Killian (Amanda); sisters Diane Strawser (Mark); Betty Byers (Brad) and sister-in-law Joyce Flory (Robert)

Gladys Boyer Moore, 88, of Columbia passed away on December 9th, 2021. She was born in Union Deposit to the late Enos, Sr. and Mary Lehn Boyer. Gladys was a graduate of Hershey High School with the Class of 1951. From 1988 – 1999, she worked as a teacher’s aide at St.  John’s Lutheran Day Care. Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, and sister who adored her family and treasured spending time with them. She was a faithful member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ in Mountville.

Gladys leaves behind her children, John, husband of Rosemary Moore of Georgetown, De, Mark, husband of Corie Moore of Harrisburg, Donna Moore, wife of Jere Hedricks of Columbia, Mary Moore of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Dustin, husband of Kelley Zipp, Brad Moore, Charity, wife of Jeff Norton, Christy, Charissa, Chaeli Moore, Kaitlin and Andrew Fischer, Zachary Jones; one great grandson and one great great granddaughter, Austin Zipp and Amaya Zipp; two siblings, Enos Boyer of Hershey, Shirley, wife of Richard Conrad of Hummelstown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Moore in 2012 and four siblings, Mary Huber, Sarah Stegall, Kathryn Whitehaus, and Harold Boyer.

Lonnie C. Brown, Sr., 75 of Columbia passed away on December 6th, 2021. He was born in Columbia to the late Raymond and Geraldine Geesey Brown and was a lifelong resident of this area. Lonnie attended Columbia High School and worked for more than thirty years with Alumax (Arconic) as a maintenance mechanic before his retirement. He was an avid hunter and wine enthusiast who enjoyed visiting wineries with his friends.

Lonnie leaves behind his children, Lonnie C. Brown, Jr., husband of Christine of Wrightsville, Lorie Ann, wife of Daniel Michels of Silver Spring, Kenneth, husband of Rachel Bosley of Mechanicsburg, Sarah, wife of Outhai Loy of Landisville; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two siblings, Raymond, husband of Bonnie Brown of Columbia, Mildred Dosch of Columbia; his canine companion Zeus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Edmond Brown; his daughter Regina Sprenkle; two sisters, Nancy Dunker and Elaine Fraiser.
