Charles F. "Choker" Hartman, 85, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Homestead Village. He was the husband of Mary Phyllis Newcomer Schoelkoph Hartman with whom he was married 22 years and the late Suzanne Marshall Hartman who passed in 1966. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Reitschy Hartman.

Charlie was a graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1952 and Millersville University, graduating in 1956. He taught math in both the Columbia and Solanco School Districts retiring after 36 years of service. During his tenure, he coached football and later advised the Chess Club.

A devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia, he served on the church council and finance board. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2294 and the B.P.O E # 1074, Columbia. He enjoyed travelling, watching the Eagles, Notre Dame football and rooting for the Phillies.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his and Suzanne's three children, Chuck, husband of Jill (Price) Hartman; George "Chip" Hartman; Julie, wife of Mark Livingston; stepdaughters, Phyliss Enochs; Georgia Masterson; Carolyn Best, Gretchen Mosteller; six grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Cremer; Francis, husband of Gloria Hartman; Jim, husband of Eileen Hartman; Robert Hartman and a host of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William, Richard, Rose Mary and Loretta.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Homestead Village for the utmost care of their residents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Anthony Swamy, Celebrant. Interment will be private. There will be not be a viewing prior to the mass, however … family and friends may view at the Clyde W. Wrightsville - Cody Allan Blymier, of Wrightsville, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in York, he was the son of Jerry Allan and Michelle Yohe Blymier.

He was very happy and enjoyed his time with his family and friends. He loved to watch Barney and friends on his TV. Cody also had two other pals, his dogs Nikki and MyMy. Most of his summers, he enjoyed going out on the Susquehanna River on his pontoon boat and hanging out at his Uncle's cabin. Cody also spent time at his day program (Pathways) with his friends and staff.

He touched the hearts of so many people that it's very hard to thank all that supported him.

Cody is survived by his parents, Jerry and Michelle and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be missed deeply by all his family and friends.

Gloria G. Carter, 94, of Landisville, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the Bob Fryer and Family Inpatient Hospice Center. She was the wife of the late Hollis J. Carter who preceded her in death on September 4, 2008.

Gloria was the daughter of the late Anthony and Marie Sprague Iannetta. Born in Keyport, NJ, she and Hollis moved to Lancaster in 1966.

Gloria was employed in banking for many years, resigning to become a lifelong homemaker, a job that she cherished, always putting family first. She loved cats and dogs having many beloved pets throughout her life.

She is survived by her sons, Hollis W.A. Carter; Thomas T. Carter; grandchildren, Sarah Garner, Ben Carter and great-granddaughter, Adelaide Garner.

John "Jack" Milton Lockard, 96, formerly of Mount Joy, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 at the Kadima Rehabilitation and Nursing at Campbelltown. He was the husband of the late Mabel Shertzer Lockard with whom he was married 72 years until her death in 2017. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Milton Hershey and Ena Beittel Brown and the adopted son of the late John and Cora Nace Lockard.

A 1940 graduate of Columbia High School, he proudly served his country during WWII and completed 35 missions as a B-17 bomber pilot on the plane that carried the name "Little Lulu" during the war. When he was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant, he received the European-African- Middle Eastern- Campaign Ribbon, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the Presidential Unit Citation. From 1958, he was employed in the computer industry throughout the U.S retiring in 1985 as a Computer Systems Analyst for Kayser-Roth Corporation.

Jack was a member of Reich's Evangelical Congregational Church, Marietta and often spoke of his experiences at the Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra, wife of Alvin B. Light; Sharon Hawkins; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and half-sister, Armyllis, wife of Jack Martin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles and Harry Brown.

Funeral services will be at the Reich's Evangelical Congregational Church, 388 Stackstown Road, Marietta, PA 17547 on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel T. Blank, officiating. Interment will follow in Creswell Cemetery. There will be no public viewing, however, the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers. Ruth graduated from South Union High School in 1943 and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1947. After graduation, she taught business classes for 27 years in the Donegal School District until her retirement 1982. In addition, Ruth was a faithful member of the Columbia United Methodist Church where she served on various committees and taught Sunday school.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Kay, wife of Charles Leader; Ruth Ann, wife of Michael Weigel; grandchildren, Matthew and Rebecca Leader, Sarah Musser, Jon Weigel, Jenny Brewer, Kyle Mathiot; nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Doris Wallace. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Mathiot and siblings Nora Brown, William A. Johnson, Jr., Anna Riddell and Janet Thomas.

Jessie was a lifetime resident of this area and worked for many years in the packing department at the John Wright Corporation. She was an avid book reader who loved visiting the library. Jessie also enjoyed playing bingo and was a member of Lancaster Church of God.

Jessie leaves behind her son, Gilbert Bice, companion of Shelley Duncan of Columbia; a sister, Phyliss, wife of Doug Miller of Hellam; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other family members. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Bice and Donald Brown; two sisters, Letha Haas and Louise Keeney.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was an avid outdoorsman who would bass fish using a fly rod!

Joseph (Gabby) Hartmann, age 94 and one of Columbia’s local legends passed away on Saturday, October 5th, at the VA Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in Paterson, NJ, son of Joseph A. and Leona (Schlegelmilch) Hartmann.

Gabby joined the Navy at age 16, only to be sent home until he turned 17. His first tour of duty was 3rd Division Anti-Submarine patrol, followed by amphibian training in Long Island and advanced training in Firth of Clyde in Scotland. He was then assigned to a British Warship, H.M.S. Capetown, and was one of the first to arrive at Omaha Beach on D-Day under cover of darkness (they were known as the suicide squad). Gabby was in the middle of all action for six months, then assigned to U.S.S. L.S.T. 5067 as the first allies to go to Norway. After his discharge in 1946, he owned Hartmann’s Café for 20 years. Gabby was an avid outdoorsman, fishing the river for bass using a fly rod, duck hunting and all wild game.

He is survived by his daughter, Kristie Lou Crosby of Douglasville, Georgia, and two sisters, Leona (Robert Stover) and Dolores (Clyde Butz) of Lancaster, and his nephew, Dave Wise, who was like the son he never had. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou (Kauffman) Hartmann.

At his request, there will be no service. He will be interred with his late wife at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Hathaway D. Garner, 70, of Columbia passed away on October 2nd, 2019. He was born in Columbia to the late Marvin and Mae Garner and was a lifelong resident of this area.

Hathaway was a graduate of Eastern High School with the Class of 1968 where he was a member of the varsity wrestling team. He began his career at Caterpillar and eventually retired and went to work at Armstrong before once again retiring. Hathaway was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was known to be a family man who could tell a great story. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ.

Hathaway leaves behind his wife of almost 38 years, Susan Zurin Garner of Columbia; four children, Trevor Garner of Columbia, Laura Garner of Columbia, Todd Garner of York, Tammy Waples of York; six grandchildren, Ewan, Tyler, Corey, Noland, Skylar, Keira; five siblings, Marlene Long of Columbia, Bud, husband of Daun Garner of Yorkanna, Joanne Knaub of Wrightsville, Herb, husband of Pat Garner of East Prospect, Larry, husband of Joanne Garner of Glen Rock. John Richard Forney, 72, of Columbia passed away suddenly on September 24th, 2019. He was born in Lancaster to the late Richard and Katherine Forney and was lifelong resident of this area.

John was a graduate of McCaskey High School with the Class of 1964 and worked for almost forty years with the City of Lancaster as a supervisor in the Water Department. He was a member of many social clubs throughout Columbia and was an exceptional dart player. John enjoyed boating on the Susquehanna River and Treasured spending time with his family.

John leaves behind his wife of fifty four years, Linda Forney of Columbia; his children, Tamara McLain of Columbia, Michael, husband of Cris Forney of Brownstown; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Ruth was a faithful member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Landisville where she taught Sunday School and served on various church committees.

Ruth L. Albright, 97, formerly of Landisville, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Mennonite Home where she had resided for the past eight years. She was the wife of the late H. Nelson Albright who preceded her in death in 1990. Born in Landisville, she was the daughter of the late Paul S. and Mary Trout Baker.

Following her graduation from Hempfield High School and Penn State University, Ruth was employed as a Hospital Dietitian at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center and Flowers Fifth Avenue Hospital before retiring from the Lancaster General Hospital. Ruth was a faithful member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Landisville where she taught Sunday School and served on various church committees.

She is survived by her sons, John N. husband of Deborah (Enders) Albright; Thomas J. husband of Lynn (Fisher) Albright; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her sister Mary E. "Beth" Dum, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 Brandt Blvd., Landisville, PA 17538 on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Barbara Caruana, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private interment will follow in the Landisville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Ruth's memory to the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lloyd was known to be very patriotic and always had

Lloyd W. McKee, 86, of Salunga passed away on September 13 th , 2019.
He was born in Mountville to the late Raymond, Sr. and Lydia McKee.

Lloyd proudly served in United States Army and worked at Alcoa for
twenty six years before his retirement. He enjoyed walking and was
proud of his lawn. Lloyd was known to be very patriotic and always had
a flag flown in his yard. He adored his family and treasured spending
time with them. Lloyd was a faithful member of Mount Joy Church of
God.

Lloyd leaves behind his wife of fifty one years, Bethel McKee of
Salunga; his daughters, Kathy, wife of Ken Cline of Belmont, NY and
Becky, wife of the late Robert Stauffer, II; eleven grandchildren and four
great grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Miller and Lois Johns. In
addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean
McKee in 1967; two sons, Barry and Lloyd E. McKee; five siblings.

Services for Lloyd will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September
17 th , 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 247 Main St, Landisville,
PA 17538. Burial will follow at Salunga Brethren Cemetery. The family
will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. In lieu of

Kenneth was a family man who treasured time with his family and was a faithful member of Faith Bible Church.

Kenneth Lloyd Wiederrecht, 82, of Landisville passed away at his residence on September 13, 2019. He was born in Millersville to the late Lloyd G. and Marie Wiederrecht and was lifelong resident of this area.

Kenneth was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite School with the Class of 1956 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He worked for forty three years as a printer at R.R. Donnelley before retiring in 1999. Kenneth was a family man who treasured time with his family and was a faithful member of Faith Bible Church.

Kenneth leaves behind his wife of fifty eight years, M. Naomi Wiederrecht of Landisville; his children, Kenneth L. Wiederrecht, II of Landisville, Daniel, husband of Christine Wiederrecht of Manheim, Rebecca, wife of David Lankford of York, David, husband of Melissa Wiederrecht of Cypress, TX; Eleven grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Barr and Kathleen Davis both of Lancaster.

A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 16th, 2019 at Faith Bible Church, 2075 Harrisburg Ave, Mount Joy, PA 17552. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Melvin was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean conflict.

There will be no funeral but a celebration of life at a later date.

Melvin C Brown Jr, 87, passed away Sept 11th, 2019. Born & raised in Columbia, PA, he was the husband of the late Dolores Brown. Melvin was the son of the late Melvin, Sr. and Alice Brown.

He is survived by his step children James Fisher, husband of Barbara, Victoria Sheirich wife of Joe, Randolf Fisher husband of Bonnie, Valerie Liebl wife of Frank, Dolores Kirchoff wife of Scott. Melvin is also survived by siblings John Brown, Robert Brown, Edwin Brown, Lougene Stevens, Barbara Kuhns, Sharon Strausbaugh, Alyce Brown. He was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice Siltzer and brother Donald Brown.

Melvin was a Navy veteran and served in the Korean conflict. He enjoyed wood working, oil painting, scrimshaw, making guns & knives. Melvin was a member of the Masons, VFW, Pequea Valley Sportsman club & Morris Run. He drove steel truck until his retirement.

There will be no funeral but a celebration of life at a later date.
