Robert C. Weisser

Enjoyed spending time on the Susquehanna River and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert C. Weisser, 69, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at home. He was the husband of Doris Jones Weisser with whom he was married 38 years. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late Robert V. Weisser and Rosealma Ziegler Kitch.

Bob attended Valley Forge Military Academy as a teenager, and he graduated from Columbia High School in 1967. He also attended the University of Miami where he was a Golden Glove boxer. Bob worked for Norfolk-Southern Railroad for 34 years as a brakeman and conductor, retiring in 2010. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and served as its President for ten years.

He enjoyed spending time on the Susquehanna River, riding motorcycles and sportscars, and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife are his children, Christian R., husband of Traci Weisser; Courtney R., wife of Daniel Ott; five grandchildren, Cole and Carson Weisser; Ayla, Brody, and Crew Ott; brother, Joseph, husband of Deb Weisser; and half-sister, Margie McElhaney. Bob shared his birthday with two of his four grandsons.

A graveside service will be held in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen Kelley, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Bob's memory to the Columbia Education Foundation, PO Box 548, Columbia, PA 17512.

V. Fay Mowrer, 85, of West Hempfield Township, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Anne's Retirement Community where she had been a guest since October. She was the wife of the late Paul G. "Red" Mowrer with whom she shared 66 years of marriage until his death on March 20, 2018. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen Doerer Ackerman.

Fay had worked for many years in the shipping and order department at the former Tidy Products, Columbia and was a longtime member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed watching all the wildlife that would pass through her yard.

A special thank you to the staff of St. Anne's Retirement Community for the excellent care provided to Fay during her brief stay there.

She is survived by her son, Jerry D., husband of Barb (Kreiser) Mowrer; Linda K., wife of Wayne R. Houck; grandchildren, Greg Mowrer, Brian Mowrer, Jill Corvino, Matthew Houck; great grandchildren, Adam, Elizabeth, Ava, Mason and sister, Janet Huggins. Her siblings, Sandy Helm and James Ackerman, preceded her in deathAt Fay's request, a graveside service will be held in the Concordia Lutheran Church Cemetery, 3825 Concordia Road, Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Mary Anne Kingsborough, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the church where a light lunch will be served. Bradford L. Smith, 33, of Manheim, died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at the Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Rodger L. Smith and Tammy (Rineer) wife of Richard "Rick" Bransby. Brad was currently employed at Lancaster Asphalt Systems, Inc. He enjoyed skateboarding, playing the guitar and spending time with his family.

In addition to his mother and step father, he is survived by a son, Brenden; sisters, Shelby Smith; Amber Smith Lasky; step sister, Morgan wife of Andrew Moore and maternal grandmother, Barbara L. Miller.

A funeral service will be held from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia PA 17512 on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.

Gloria I. "Nan" Douglas

Most important role was as matriarch to her daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren.

Gloria I. "Nan" Douglas, 92, formerly of Columbia, passed away on January 25, 2019. She was the wife of the late Richard B. Douglas, who preceded her in death in 1996. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late David and Annie McCall Devine.

Nan was an excellent cook working in various area establishments, but was most known as the cook at the Red Rose Memorial Post 2435, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Columbia, with whom she was life member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Her recipe for crab cakes is still a closely held family secret. In addition, she was a member of St. James's Lutheran Church, Columbia.

Most important was her role as matriarch to her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Cathie, wife of Bob Miller; Brenda, wife of Bill Rauch; Lynn Risser; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and sister Nancy Nau. A number of siblings preceded her in death.

At Nan's request, a private graveside service will be held in Silver Spring Cemetery at a later date.

Thomas Ray Andrews, an angel born sleeping as a caterpillar awaits its beautiful life as a butterfly, received his heavenly wings on January 22, 2019. Though life remained short lived with Stacy Eckenrod and Scotty Andrews of Columbia PA, he remains in the hearts of mommy and daddy and is loved from day 1 of hearing your heartbeat to the blessing of seeing your handsome sweet face.

May you fly high precious baby boy until we meet again.

Aline L. Beine, 59, of Columbia passed away suddenly on January 27th, 2019. She was born in Queens, NY to Theresa Demers Chiasson and the late William Thomas Chiasson. Aline was known for her sense of humor and for being a great cook. She enjoyed playing bingo and having an online presence. Aline was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who adored her family. She Loved, defended, and acted as mother and grandmother to all children.

Aline leaves behind her husband of thirty five years, Paul Beine of Columbia; four children, David Beine, husband of Kim Phillips of Jacksonville, FL, William, husband of Mary Beine of Columbia, Kevin Beine of Jacksonville, FL, Jeffery Beine of Jacksonville, FL; eight grandchildren; her mother, Theresa Chiasson of Goose Creek, SC; four brothers and one sister.

Patricia A. "Tish" Wasche Urban, 86, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 surrounded by her loving family at the Lancaster General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerald F. Wasche, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1971 and the wife of the late Claude W. "Bud" Urban, Sr. with whom she was married 25 years until his death in 2000.

Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Marie Keyes Kauffman. A homemaker, family was central in her life, she worked alongside her husband "Bud" who was the founder, owner and operator of Bud's Spring Service, Lancaster. Tish also worked for the former Kahn-Lucas Manufacturing Company and for many years was the crossing guard at Holy Trinity Catholic School.

Tish was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, and volunteered at the annual Lenten fasnacht sale and the 300 Club.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry F. Jr. husband of Debbie A. (Noll) Wasche; Brian E. Wasche; Jeffrey A. husband of Carol L. (Hartman) Wasche; grandchildren, Angel, Mindy, Nicole, Brian, Ashley, Kayla; great-grandchildren, Ian, Ethan, Kayla, Brian, Bella, Addy and Jack. Her sister, Betsy McBride and brothers, Lewis "Luke" husband of Roberta Kauffman and Lamar, husband of Carolyn Kauffman also survive. She was preceded in death by her stepson, Claude W. Urban, Jr. and siblings, Virginia, JoAnne, Mary Lou and Thelma.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may view at the church one hour prior to the mass. Donald L. "Nip" Pelen, 72, formerly of 1035 Chestnut St., Columbia, PA passed away on January 22, 2019. Born in Columbia, PA on January 22, 1947, he was the son of the late John N. and Phyllis Shortlidge Pelen.

Nip retired from the Maintenance Department of the Housing Development Corporation after 35 years of service. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Red Rose Memorial Post #2435 VFW and the Susquehanna Fire Co. all in Columbia. He loved cooking, the beach, music, NASCAR and was an avid Dale Earnhart fan.

Surviving are 2 Daughters: Lyn wife of Brian Schreiner and Donielle Pelen both of Columbia, PA., 3 grandchildren: Jarrett Schreiner, Nicholas Schreiner and Kylee Keller, 1 great-grandchild: Ava Schreiner, 2 brothers: Robert "Buzz" husband of Frances Pelen of Columbia, PA and Thomas husband of the late Dawn Pelen of Millersville, PA and 1 sister: Sara wife of Orville Young of Marietta, PA. Also surviving are cousins, nieces and a nephew.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 4th & Cherry Streets, Columbia, PA on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00AM (VIEWING: 10:00AM – 11:00AM) with Rev. Fr. Stephen Kelley as Celebrant. Final Commendation and Farewell will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Teresa V. Knighton, 91, of Columbia, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 at the Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late James R. Knighton with whom she was married 65 years until his death in 2017. A lifelong Columbia resident, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Branyik Buzzendore.

A homemaker, her family was central in her life. Teresa was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Theresa, wife of Robert Kilheffer; Sandra Lee, wife of Charles Bink; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brother, Joseph Buzzendore. She was preceded in death by her siblings, George, Joseph, John, Jake, Betty, Anna and Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 121 S. Second St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Anthony Swamy, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may view at the church one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Teresa's memory to St. Peter's Catholic Church would be deeply appreciated.

Eugene L. Markley, Sr, 69, of Ephrata passed away on January 14th, 2019. He was born in Columbia to Lucille Fuhrman and the late Valentine Markley. Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Eugene leaves behind his mother, Lucille Fuhrman; his children, Eugene L. Markley, Jr, Michael A. Markley, Sr, Kristy L. Landis; twelve grandchildren; a sister, Margie Minnich; step-siblings, Janice Sholl, Jamie Waughtel, and Scott West. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Elizabeth Markley in 2011.

Betty J. Hawk (Laudenberger), 96, of Columbia passed away on January 15th, 2019. She was born in Columbia to the late Harvey and Pearl Sarbaugh Long and was the wife of the late Ray Hawk and the late John Laudenberger. Betty loved to travel, dance, sing, and entertain. She was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 1940 and was retired from the former Colonial Metals in Columbia. Betty was a resident of St. John Herr Estate and member of the Presbyterian Church, where she was the leader and treasurer of the Women’s Association, treasurer of her Sunday school class, deacon and elder, and choir member. She was also a member of AARP, the Columbia Senior Center, and treasurer of both. At St. John Herr Estate, Betty was involved with senior Saints and the Angel Choir.

Betty leaves behind her son, John W, husband of Peggy Laudenberger of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Keith, husband of Laura Laudenberger of Rockville, MD, Heather, wife of John Maitrejean of Hummelstown, PA, Michele Laudenberger of Washington D.C.; three great grandchildren John A. Laudenberger, Chloe Maitrejean, and Katherine Maitrejean. In addition to her parents and husbands, Betty was preceded in death by three siblings, Jack Long, William Long, and Ruth Baker.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time. She will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Wrightsville at a later date. Thomas L. Leibfried, 74, of Lititz, formerly of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Carol Fry Leibfried with whom he was married 52 years. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Francis J. and Reba Starn Leibfried.

Tom served in the PA National Guard from 1965 thru 1971 and retired in 2006 from ITT Engineered Valves where he was employed as a receiving inspector. He was a lifetime member of the Seagraves Social Club; Columbia Fraternal Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 469, Wrightsville. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed playing poker with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Richard, husband of Laurie Leibfried; daughter, Christine Leibfried; granddaughters, Jessica and Sarah Waltz; great-granddaughter, Emma Yaukey. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Kriner; brothers, Francis A. (Bruzz) and Paul Leibfried.

A memorial service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp, officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Patricia Ann Dimitris, 81, of Lancaster passed away on January 2, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born in Lancaster to the late Franklin and Anna Bowers. Patricia’s dedication to her family included twenty years as a military wife beside her late husband, who served in the United States Air Force. She was a compassionate and caring person whose heartfelt love for her family and those around her will always inspire us. We are grateful to have had her in our lives, and she will be deeply missed.

Patricia leaves behind her son, Dwayne Dimitris, companion of Debra Myers of Lancaster; her daughter-in-law, Patty Dimitris Dietch, widow of her late son Craig Dimitris, of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Tiffanee, wife of Albert Wright of Mountville, Christina, wife of Steven Schoffstall of Lancaster, Kyle, husband of Heidi Dimitris of Cape Coral, FL; six great grandchildren, Kiara, Kaiya, Tyler, Preston, Cameron, Carter; her brother, Jerry, husband of Cathy Bowers of Lancaster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty three years, George Dimitris in 2005, her son, Craig Dimitris in 1993, and six siblings.

A celebration of Patricia’s life was held at Lancaster Alliance Church on January 11th, 2018. She was laid to rest beside her late husband George at Conestoga Memorial Park in Lancaster. Robert E. "Bob" Fornoff, 87, of Ironville, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. Anne's Retirement Community.

Born in Ironville, he was the son of the late Roy and Margaret Snyder Fornoff. He was the husband of Maria Gecas Fornoff with whom he was married 19 years. His first wife Fern Redcay Fornoff passed away in 1996. In addition to his wife are his daughters, Janice, wife of Mark Bute; Laurie, wife of Oscar Plowman; Beverly Fornoff; Lydia, wife of Allen Hipple; Cynthia Bowman; Deborah, wife of George Maldonado; Jessica, wife of James Stevens; six grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joann, wife of Leroy Lehman.

Bob was a 1949 graduate of Columbia High School where he excelled in track and field. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. A bricklayer, he started his masonry career with Alvin Mummaw. Bob was a member of the Ironville United Methodist Church where he will be remembered for his lifelong service to the Church. He was a member of the Lancaster Liederkranz, enjoyed woodworking and found fulfillment in raising shrubs in his own greenhouse.

Funeral services will be held at the Ironville United Methodist Church, 4020 Holly Drive, Columbia PA 17512 on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Impink, officiating. Private interment will be held in Laurel Hill memorial Gardens. Family and friends may view at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions in Bob's memory to the Ironville United Methodist Church.

Mazie Yohe, 87, of Maytown passed away on January 7th, 2019. She was born in Columbia to the late Benjamin F. and Mary E. Mimnall and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mazie loved to shop, scratch her Bingo Lottery tickets, and cook for her family. She adored her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mazie was a devoted wife, mother, and sister who also took care of her sisters in their later years.

Mazie leaves behind her husband of seventy years, Ben Yohe of Maytown; her children, Steve Yohe of Mountville, Robin, wife of Rick Ernst of Columbia, Tammy, wife of Robert Eno of Landisville, John, husband of Alesha Yohe of Maytown; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Keith Yohe in 2016; a great grandchild, Kyrie; twelve brothers and sisters.

A celebration of Mazie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16th, 2019 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Entombment will be private. Sister Mary John Goles, ASC, 94, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at St. Anne's Retirement Community. Born in Steelton, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Sestric Vergot Goles. Sister Mary John was preceded in death by her siblings, John, Jack, and Steve Vergot;Joseph Golesh, Anthony, Matthew and Catherine Goles.

Sister Mary John entered the Adorers of the Blood of Christ on August 28, 1939. Her ministries included serving as principal and teacher of elementary schools and serving as local superior.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Chapel at St. Anne's Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512 on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Norman Hohenwarter, Celebrant. Burial will follow in the adjoining convent cemetery. Thomas G. "Spider" Allen, 65, of Columbia, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on January 7, 2019 at the Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Derotha "Dee" Ellison Allen with whom he was married 42 years. Born in Detroit MI, he was the son of the late Dallas L. and Elizabeth Allen.

Tom was a graduate of Michigan State University where in received his degree in metallurgy. After working in several foundries, he was employed for the past 35 years as a technical supervisor for the Kleen Rite Corporation in Mount Joy.

He enjoyed hunting, but his greatest love was his family, spending time with them at their mountain cabin.

In addition to his wife are his children, Thomas husband of Tracey Allen; Amanda fiancée of William Reisinger; Tyler Faus; grandchildren, Karli, Oxzonna, Cassie, Bryan, Ryan; five brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
