James C. Cook, Jr., of Wrightsville, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at the age of 65. Born in Columbia, he was the son of (L) James C., Sr. and Doris (Reese) Cook. Jim was the husband of Pamela Cook, with whom he celebrated 45 years of marriage in November.   

Jim grew up in Columbia and attended Columbia High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, visiting flea markets, and collecting guns and knives. He was also a car enthusiast. He worked as a heavy and highway construction worker with Laborers Local 158. As a licensed blaster, he had a good time blasting on the pipeline. Jim was a life member of the Second Street Quarry Club and a member of the Susquehanna Fishing and Game. He liked spending time with his friends, kicking back and having a few.  

In addition to his mother and wife, Jim is survived by his son, Jimmy Cook, husband of Bobbi Jo, of Wrightsville; two grandchildren, Allison and Owen (aka “Moose”); siblings: Eric Cook, of Wrightsville, Kristine Powers, of Mount Joy, and Chuck Cook, of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.   
A public visitation for Jim will be held on Thursday, February 18th, at 10:00 AM at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home (519 Walnut Street, Columbia), followed by a private service for immediate family. The use of face masks and the following of social distancing guidelines is required. In lieu of flowers, donations to Susquehanna Fishing and Game are kindly encouraged (7084 Roundtop Lane, Wrightsville, PA 17368). Arrangements made by the Clyde W. She rarely turned down an invitation to spend time with friends and family, whether it was traveling with them, attending a show or playing a game of Scrabble..

MaryAnn Mowery, 82, of Salunga, PA entered peacefully into God's presence on Friday, February 5, 2021, following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Enos Weaver and Kathleen Zinn Weaver Ginder and the step daughter of the late Earl M. Ginder. MaryAnn was married to John H. Mowery, Jr. for 38 years. She was blessed with 9 children and lived most of her life in Salunga.

She was employed by Donnelley Printing as an inventory clerk/biller for 13 years; then owned and operated Salunga Village Restaurant for several years and finally retired from Hook's CPA office in 2018.

MaryAnn enjoyed volunteering as an usher at Fulton Opera House for many years and enjoyed her volunteer position on the board of Lancaster Cemetery and being involved in their Victorian Days. She loved to learn about history and you could almost always find her reading an historical novel. She also was an avid quilter. Mom rarely turned down an invitation to spend time with friends and family, whether it was traveling with them, attending a show or playing a game of Scrabble.

Being a founding member of St. Leo The Great Church, MaryAnn was a woman of great faith.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Ken and David Weaver and her sister, Janet Washington. She is survived by a sister, Margaret (Peggy) McBride and her daughter, Maria (Mark) Gibson.

MaryAnn enjoyed her life surrounded by her loving children: Tim (Rosie) Mowery, John (Wendy) Mowery, Lisa (Carl) Polonchak, Tom Mowery, Linda (Darwin) Craul, Mary Mowery, Joe (Allyson)Mowery, Tony (Candace) Mowery, and Jason (Stephanie) Mowery; 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, patience and charity lives on through all of them.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Peter I. Hahn, Celebrant. There will be no public viewing. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Maryann's memory to St. Leo's Catholic Church.

Robin M. Frane, 60, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Pleasant Acres in York, PA. Formerly of Columbia, she was the daughter of (L) Donald Robert, Sr. and Dorothy May Frane (Yost).  

Robin was truly loved and valued by so many people in her life. She had the ability to make friends and family laugh no matter what kind of day they were having. Robin had a love for eagles and horses, and she enjoyed spending time doing arts and crafts. She would sometimes crochet things for those she loved. She will be deeply missed by many, but especially by her daughter.

Joseph A. Fincher

Joseph Allen Fincher, 75, a lifelong resident of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021. He was the oldest son of the late John and Erma Yohe Fincher. 

Joseph attended Columbia High School and proudly served his country while in the Marine Reserves. He worked at ITT Grinnell before becoming a trash truck driver and trash collector with a local waste disposal company for many years. One of Joseph’s favorite pastimes was playing the guitar. He had a unique and special relationship with his mother, whom he adored tremendously. 

Joseph is survived by his brother, Gary Fincher, of Columbia; sisters, Erna, wife of Ronnie Hoffman, of Frenchville, PA, Stephanie, wife of the late Robert Sholly, of Wrightsville, and Beth Packard, of Columbia; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Witmer.

Gloria Murr, 53, of Mountville passed away on January 27th, 2021. She was born in Columbia to Kathleen and the late Leroy Murr and was a lifelong resident of this area. Gloria was a 1988 graduate of Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13. She loved talking on the phone and the music of New Kids on the Block. Gloria enjoyed collecting music boxes and stuffed animals. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Columbia.

Gloria leaves behind her mother, Kathleen Deisinger Murr of Mountville; her sister, Kathy Murr of Lancaster; her beloved cat, Angel; many caring cousins; dear friend, Holly Maher of Marietta.

A private service will be held at the discretion of Gloria’s family and she will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill memorial Gardens. Sandra L. Keyser, 71 of 233 S. 8th St., Columbia, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of William H. Keyser to whom she was married for 49 years. Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Edward E. and Janet Mummau Springer.

She retired as an Audit and Security Administrator for Donegal Mutual Insurance Co., where she was employed for 25 years. Sandy was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Columbia and was Past Treasurer for the Columbia Borough Fire Department. While she had hobbies such as reading and traveling to the beach, her children and grandchildren were the center of her world and what brought her the most joy. She selflessly was always thinking of others before herself.

Surviving besides her husband are sons: Bryan E. Keyser of Columbia, PA, Kevin A. Keyser fiancé of Brittany Roth-Styer of Columbia, PA and Brent M. husband of Christine Keyser of Elizabethtown, PA, grandchildren: Reed D. Keyser and Charlotte Keyser and brothers: Dennis E. husband of Debra Springer of Mount Joy, PA and Edward E. Jr. husband of Chandra Springer of York, PA.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday evening, February 3, 2021 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA. A Life Celebration for Sandy will be on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 2:00PM from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., with an additional viewing from 1:00PM – 2:00PM. Vickie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who adored her family.

Vickie Sue Bryant, 72, of Marietta passed away on January 24th, 2021. She was born in Columbia to the late Quay L, Sr. and Betty Yohe Dellinger and was a lifetime resident of this area. Vickie was a graduate of Columbia High School and had worked as a nursing assistant for many years. She was a hard worker and enjoyed shopping, especially with her grandchildren. Vickie was the rock of her family and her generosity and loving support will be missed by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who adored her family.

Vickie leaves behind her husband of almost 56 years, Henry Lee Bryant, Sr. of Marietta; four children, Suzanne, wife of Shawn Eck of York, Candy Lee of Marietta, Tassi, wife of James Murphy, Jr. of Marietta, Vikki Bryant, companion of Shane Wright of Hanover; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Henry Lee Bryant, Jr; her brother, Quay L. Dellinger, Jr; two sisters, Barbie Dellinger and Terry Zink.

James D. Knier, 68, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday January 18, 2021 at Conestoga View. He was the husband of Cindy Garner Knier with whom he was married 47 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles D. and Alverna Geiter Knier.

A graduate of Hempfield High School, Class of 1970, Jim retired from SWF Industrial, Metal Fabrication and Installation Services, Wrightsville where he was employed as a maintenance supervisor. He also worked for many years at the former U.S. Lock and Hardware, Columbia.

He was a member of the Green Hill Sportsman Association and enjoyed tinkering around the house and helping family and friends with home maintenance projects.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Amy, wife of Allen Harvin and two grandchildren, Dante and Chiara. His brother, Robert Knier also survives.

At Jim's request there will be no funeral services.

Lillie Irene Hauf, 94, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at West Willow Rest Home where she had resided for the past 17 years.

She was a member of the Blue Rock Mennonite Church and was well known for her interest in people. She worked in a sewing factory in her earlier years.

Lillie was the daughter of the late Daniel T. and Emma May Tweed Hauf. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Jane Hauf and a brother, Daniel T. Hauf, Jr.

Services will be held at the Blue Rock Mennonite Church on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.

Marian C. Miller, 74, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Hospice and Community Care. Born in Shamokin, she was the daughter of the late Clair and Marian Holby.

Marian was employed for 38 years for Arrow Consulting Inc., Lititz, where she worked in the accounting department. She enjoyed the company of her family and going to the beach.

She is survived by her daughter, Erica A. wife of Jon Flowers; son, Austin M. Miller; four grandchildren, Hallie Stuber, Kenna, Declan, and Brendan Miller. Her sister, Shirley wife of Edward Falk, also survives. A brother, Clair Holby, Jr., preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Earl W. Condran, Jr.

Earl’s greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

Earl W. Condran, Jr., 70, of Landisville, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his residence on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. Born in Hershey, he was the son of the late Earl W. Sr. and Laura Stotz Condran.

Earl graduated from Middletown Area High School in 1968 and was employed as an operation shift manager at QVC until retiring in 2013.

He enjoyed watching sports, especially his Penn State Nittany Lions, cooking, reading, and relaxing at the beach, but his greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Earl valued his relationships with his family, friends, and coworkers and continually put others’ needs ahead of his own. His kind heart, witty sense of humor, and big hugs will be greatly missed.

Earl is survived by his two sons and their wives, Derek and Patricia Condran of Marysville and Chance and Alenna Condran of Enola; longtime companion Amy Eck of Landisville and her son Kenny Wagner of Longs, SC; brother Charles “Chuck” Condran, husband of Candace Condran, of Grantville; and three grandchildren, Tessa, Julian, and Brooks.

Due to pandemic restrictions, a Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date and will be announced by his family on social media platforms. In remembrance of Earl's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to the Penn State Four Diamonds Fund.

Betty V. Bridgette, 97, of Columbia died January 21, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Marietta, she was the daughter of the late Albert L. Waters, Sr. and Nellie Howard Waters Bailer.

She is survived by her daughters Tanya Minnick, Winter Haven, FL, Suzanne Skennonto, York, Vivian Bridgette, Columbia and son, Nathaniel Bridgette, Arizona.  Her sisters Shirley wife of Robert Poindexter, Columbia and Glorea Gray wife of the late Edward Gray, Lancaster along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her children Jackson E. Bridgette, Jr., Darlyne C. Bridgette, George R. Bridgette and Phyllis A. Craley.  She was also preceded in death by sisters Vivian, Jenny, Esther, Nancy, Ethel and brothers Albert, Richard, Bethel, Edward, Laverne and Charles.

A public visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26th, 2021 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. All other funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Marietta Cemetery, Fairview Avenue, Marietta PA. If attending any events, please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Carol A. Sponar, 73, of Columbia passed away on January 19th, 2021. She was born in San Francisco, CA to the late John T. and Margaret Sheehy Sponar and lived most of her life in Columbia. Carol worked and volunteered as a nurse’s aide at Fairview Manor, Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation, and St. Anne’s Retirement Community. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Carol leaves behind her sister, Rosemary Weidman of Clay Township; her sister-in-law, Hazel Sponar of York; her nephews, Jon and Justin Sponar; grandniece, Emily Sponar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Sponar.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22nd, 2021 at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Columbia. If attending please wear a mask and practice social distancing. Bonnie L. Ryan, 80, of Landisville passed away on January 12th, 2021. She was born in York to the late Frank and Erma Sprenkle Snyder and was a lifetime resident of this area. Bonnie worked for many years with Giant Food Stores in the deli. She lived a simple life and was loved by many. She was always there when someone needed her and willing to give whatever she had to give.

Bonnie loved to read, do puzzles, play cards, watch MASH, HGTV and game shows, flowers, gardening, scratch off lottery tickets, going on bus trips to Atlantic City, and being with her family. Bonnie’s family meant the world to her. She adored and cared for her six grandchildren, Jennifer O’Neil Black wife of Howard Black, Michael O’Neil, Timothy O’Neil husband of Lindsey, Jesse Herman, Nichole Barnes and Ian Seifried and ten great grandchildren, Lexi Young, Olivia Herman, Austin O’Neil, Jenna Brenner, Aiden Davenport, Mason Brenner, Keira O’Neil, Avery O’Neil, Alyssa Caplinger and Dustin Caplinger. Bonnie also leaves behind her daughter, Tammy, wife of Rick Seifried of Landisville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Ryan in 1981 and her daughter Deborah O’Neil in 2008.

Bonnie’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Tonya Leahy, Joni Yarnall and her Hospice Care team, Mandy, Christina, Jasmine and Donna for all the excellent care given to Bonnie over this past year.

Tammy would like to personally thank her husband, Rick, for all of his love, support and caring for both mom and her. Additionally, she cannot thank her family and friends enough for all their help, love and support!

Michael L. Wanner, 62, of Mount Joy, passed away at home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 due to an aggressive form of cancer. He was a loving husband, father, and pappy. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Marvin C. Wanner and Arlene Wanner-Sload. Michael was the husband of Sherry A. Wanner.  He was employed by T. Berry Trucking and drove tri-axle dump trucks.

Michael is survived by his wife Sherry and two sons, Brandon, husband of Lindsay Wanner of Maytown, and James Bigelow, companion of Kailynn Lake of Elizabethtown; one grandson, Henrik Wanner; one grandchild on the way; two sisters, Linda Fulmer of Columbia, and Sandy, wife of Richard Eisenberger of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Marvin C. Wanner, Jr. And Richard E. Ruhl.

Mary Jane Bell, 90, of Mountville, passed on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at home. She was the wife of the late Jack P. Bell who preceded her in death in 1982. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late William H. Sr. and Mary Haugh Hogendobler.

Over her lifetime, along with being a devoted wife and mother, she worked for Susquehanna Glass and Rivard Popcorn Company. Mary Jane was a member of the Ironville United Methodist Church, loved animals, was a great cook and an avid trivia player. She also enjoyed watching the TCM channel on television, particularly westerns. She also enjoyed spending quality time with niece, Andrea Hogendobler-Williams.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Matthew W. Zimmerman, Emily E. Zimmerman, Seth M. Zimmerman, Adam P. Zimmerman; brother, William H. Jr. husband of Terry Hogendobler, along with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy E. Bell, grandson, Andrew S. Zimmerman, and her sister Nancy Mosteller.

A viewing will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A private family service and interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens will follow the viewing. Alfred C. Palmer

Following his military service, Fred began a career as an independent long haul truck driver and amassed more than three million miles of driving.He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his family.

Celebration of Fred’s life, with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 at Washington Boro Cemetery.

Alfred “Fred” C. Palmer, 79, of Long Level, Wrightsville passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at his home on January 10th, 2021. He was born in Columbia to the late Clark Dean Palmer and Irene Clara Ackerman. Fred was a graduate of Columbia High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he began a career as an independent long haul truck driver and amassed more than three million miles of driving. Fred was also a lifetime Mason and avid outdoorsman who was a member of the Susquehanna Fish and Game and American Legion Post 469. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Columbia. He was affectionately known as “Pop” to his family. May he rest in peace.

Fred leaves behind his children, Ryan E. Cover of Mountville, Mitchell E. Cover of Lancaster, and Stefanie L. Margolis of Long Level, Wrightsville; his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rita Palmer in 2013.

A graveside celebration of Fred’s life, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021 at Washington Boro Cemetery where Fred will be laid to rest with his late wife. Ruth Kremer Leader, 86, of Lancaster passed away on January 11th, 2021. She was born in Sunbury to the late Jacob and Mary Weaver Kremer. Ruth worked for AT&T as a telephone operator for many years until her retirement. She was an art enthusiast who enjoyed going to musicals and watching the Hallmark Channel. Ruth was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Nationals, and Philadelphia Phillies fan. She also loved to travel, especially to Rockport Maine. Ruth was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Ruth leaves behind her son, John, husband of Melissa Leader of Lancaster; her granddaughters, Jenn Leader of Lancaster and Kristen Lewis of Washington Boro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Chester Leader in 2009 and four siblings.

Services for Ruth will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. Her family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens where Ruth will be laid to rest beside her late husband. Donald A.L. Zink, Jr.

He was a member of the Blue Rock Fire Department volunteering as a fire policeman.

A future celebration of Donald’s life is being planned by his family.

Donald A. L. Zink, Jr.,43, of Columbia, died unexpectedly of natural causes at Penn Medicine LGH on January 11, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Donald A.L. Zink, Sr. and Peggy Lehman Dennis. He was a member of the Blue Rock Fire Department volunteering as a fire policeman.

In addition to his mother are two sons, Anthony and James Zink and sister Brittney Dennis.

A future celebration of Donald’s life is being planned by his family.
