Yvonne “Bonnie” M. Embry, 75, long time resident of Columbia graduated August 16th, 2020. She was the wife of Huey Embry with whom she was married for fifty-five years. Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother, Ana Mary Cain and her son, Terrence Lee Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Lynn Parker Bradley, wife of Barry Lee Bradley of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Lindsey Marie, Jasmine Cherie, and Avery Lee Bradley; two great grandchildren, Julian Lee and Ezekiel Manuel, sons of Lindsey; her brother-in-law, Benjamin Embry.

Bonnie was a hard worker and was employed for twenty-seven years at R & S Manufacturing. Following her retirement, she worked at Dollar General in Columbia. At the age of 39, Bonnie’s life was radically transformed by the grace of God. She had a lifestyle of sharing with everyone about the love of Jesus and how he blessed her. Bonnie was an active and faithful member of First Assembly of God, where she served as head usher and enjoyed attending bible studies, praying, and singing. She was also a leader in Susquehanna Valley Rehab and Care groups. Bonnie enjoyed shopping and food, especially sweets. She adored her family and was always upbeat with a smile on her face. Bonnie will be missed by everyone, especially her best friend and husband Huey Embry. Happy Graduation!

Thomas W. Brown, 76, of Columbia, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020. He was the loving husband of Florence C. Kaufhold Brown with whom he would have celebrated 32 years of marriage this October 22nd. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edwin W. and Tybertus Wallick Brown.

Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired after 30 years of service from the United States Postal Service, where he was employed as a letter carrier. He was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, and he belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council, 2294; Santa Maria Assembly 915; Loyal Order of the Moose, Chickies Rock Lodge, 307; and Red Rose Memorial Post, 2435.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Stephen, husband of Karen Brown; Kevin, husband of Linda Brown; Robert Brown; five grandchildren, Declan, Lily, Olivia, David, and Corah; and his brother Michael Brown, partner of Valerie Lawson.

Tom loved spending time with his family and friends and with the other love of his life, his dog Ella, who was always by his side. He liked traveling, especially going on cruises, and he was known by all who knew him for his big heart, fun-loving nature, generosity, and mischievous sense of humor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Grab, Celebrant. Visitors may greet the family at 10:00 a.m. before the service. Masks are required. Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Brian E. Studenroth, 69, of Columbia died early Wednesday morning at his home after a lengthy illness. Born in Columbia he was the son of the late William E. and Reba McBride Studenroth. Brian graduated in 1968 from Hempfield High School and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969. He served as a machinist mate nuclear power plant operator on the nuclear submarine USS FOX and was honorably discharged in 1975. He was employed by NTN-BCA Corporation in Lititz, PA as a fabricating machinist. Brian led a quality control team and also volunteered as a coordinator of the American Cancer Society Daffodils day for NTN-BCA.

Brian was an avid reader and enjoyed his Volvo cars. He also enjoyed fishing and hanging out with his brother Skylar and buddies. He is survived by his daughter Cori, wife of Scott Steiner, sister Valerie, wife of Christopher Eck, brother Craig, husband of Cheryl and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brothers Skylar Studenroth and Gene Mower.

At Brian's request, there will be no funeral services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Emma met her husband at Millersville State Teachers College; they both graduated in the Class of 1949. Together, they were both avid bridge players.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Grandview Methodist Church, 888 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA at a future date, followed by interment in the Church Memorial Garden.

Emma Louise Nist Kraft, of Lancaster, went to be with her Lord on August 12, 2020. Born August 15, 1926 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Robert J. Nist and Hilda Kuhn Nist. Emma was the wife of Ralph V. Kraft, who died on July 17, 1997.

Emma was a retired teacher in the Lancaster School District, Conestoga School District and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf at Lampeter Strasburg, Martin Mylin Middle School, and served as a Reading Certification Specialist. After retiring, she enjoyed working as a Tour Guide with the Amish Farm and House for 28 years. Her volunteer efforts were many, throughout various community organizations and her church, including Past-President of Town Club Lancaster.

Emma met her husband at Millersville State Teachers College; they both graduated in the Class of 1949. Together, they were both avid bridge players.

Surviving is son Alan R. Kraft and wife Anne, daughter Barbara (wife of David Hogen), son Dr. James A. Kraft and wife Carol, eight grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister, brothers and one grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Homsher in 1980.

Alvin Walker Mummaw, 92, of Columbia passed away on August 12th, 2020 surrounded by his children. He was born in Columbia to the late Guy and Marie Mummaw and was a lifelong resident of this area. Al was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 1946 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Korean War and earned the rank of lance corporal. Following his service, Al and his brother ran their masonry contracting business, Alvin and Drew Mummaw, Inc. He was a lifetime member of Ironville United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader and was active in the choir. Al enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when visiting the mountains or the shores at Avalon.

Al was preceded in death by Lois, his wife of seventy years and five brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his children, Kathy and Keith and also three sisters.

A public visitation for Al will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17th, 2020 at Ironville United Methodist Church, 4020 Holly Dr, Columbia, PA 17512. Barbara Ann Dommel age 78, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2020 at her daughter's home in Auburn, NY. Her loving daughter and grandson were by her side. She was born in Lancaster, PA to Oscar and Florence Meckley. She married Thomas G. Dommel in October 1960 and who preceded her in death in January 1983.

Barb loved vacationing and spending time with her family, especially her grandson. She was a devoted mother, grandmother (or as she preferred Nan) and friend.

She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, fishing/boating, music, baseball and caring for her beloved dogs Lucy and Ozzie. She volunteered for Auburn Babe Ruth Baseball. She supported Auburn Double Day baseball and was an avid Syracuse University basketball fan.

Barb worked at Watt & Shand Department store as an Assistant Buyer for more than 25 years.

Her life was a living example of putting others before herself. She was selfless, generous, kind and compassionate.

Barb is survived by her daughter and her husband, Johnya & Bryon Cousineau, her grandson, Zacharie Cousineau. Her brother, Raymond Shoffstall and her cousin, Jay Ann Bransby who was like a sister to her.

Please join us celebrating her life Friday August 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp, officiating. Interment will follow in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. There will be no viewing, however the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

John Michael Waak, 95, of Lancaster, PA died Saturday,

July 25, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Anna (Bernadyn) Waak who died July 30, 2019.

Mr. Waak (pronounced Walk) was born June 1, 1925 in Mahanoy City, PA. He was the son of Slovak immigrants Michael and Elizabeth (Kolnick) Waak (Vak).

He served in the Army Air Forces during WWII. He was a belly gunner in the 456th Bomb Group. He also served in the Navy. He was a sonar man on two destroyers during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist at RCA for many years. He was a member of the VFW in Mountville, PA.

He is survived by daughters, Barbara Koehler, wife of Joe Koehler, Columbia, PA and Patricia Waak, wife of the late Tony Marine, Oceanside, CA and grandson, Devin Marine.

There will be no service as per John's wishes. Interment for John and Anna will be held privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

Steven G. Miller, Sr., 67, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Born in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late John P. and Hazel James Miller. Steven proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Lukens Steel Company where he had worked for many years. 

Steven was the kind of person who loved to make people laugh and would try to cheer up anyone who was feeling down using his hilarious personality. Music was his passion, and he spent many years as the lead singer in a band. He enjoyed riding his Harley, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, who meant the world to him. He cherished his beloved German Shepherd, Axel, who he took with him practically everywhere. 

Steven is survived by his companion, Suzanne Miller; his sons, Nathaniel, husband of Jackie Miller, of Wrightsville; Matthew Miller of Paradise; Steven G. Miller, Jr. of Bensalem; his daughter, Carolyn, wife of Golden Monroe of Coatsville; his brothers, Donald Miller and John Miller, both of Downingtown; his sister, Janice Miller of Downingtown; and 14 grandchildren.

Dennis L. Watterson, Jr. “DJ”, 36, of Columbia passed away suddenly on July 29th, 2020. He was born in Lancaster to Dennis, Sr. and Tracy Brady Watterson and was a lifelong resident of this area. DJ was a graduate of Columbia High School with the Class of 2002 and proudly served in the United States Army. Most recently he was the kitchen manager at Sheetz in Mount Joy. DJ loved watching sports and was an avid Miami Hurricanes, St. Louis Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and golf fan. He enjoyed supporting his family at Columbia High School Football games and also making people laugh with his sense of humor. DJ was an excellent cook and grilling was his specialty.

DJ leaves behind his parents, Dennis, Sr. and Tracy Watterson; his brother, Christopher “Hoagie” Watterson; two nieces, Mackenzie M. Watterson and Lillian L. Wickenheiser all of Columbia.

Sam had a jovial comedian like personality that would make anyone laugh, his beautiful smile was contagious and his big teddy bear type hugs were like no other.

Samuel L. Gottschall, 65, of Lancaster passed away on July 27th, 2020. He was born in Columbia to the late Paul T. and Ethel V. Roberts Gottschall. Sam was a graduate of Donegal High School in 1972 and spent his life as a well-known cosmetologist and educator at Empire Beauty School, Lancaster County Career & Technology Center in Willow Street, and J.P. McCaskey High School. He was affectionately known as “Mr. Sam” by the countless students whose lives he touched throughout his career.

In his younger years, Sam was active in the Columbia and York Little Theaters and the Fulton Opera House. His most enjoyable role was playing the Lion, in the Wizard of Oz. He had the singing voice of an Angel.

He had a jovial comedian like personality that would make anyone laugh, his beautiful smile was contagious and his big teddy bear type hugs were like no other. He just loved life to the fullest extent, no matter what health issues he was forced to face.

He adored his cats and loved spending time at Rehoboth Beach.

Sam leaves behind his devoted partner of six years, Dave Boas of Lancaster; his favorite niece, Lisa M. Gottschall of Lancaster; nephew, Don Lucas, Jr. of Marietta; sister-in-law, Tina Gottschall of Marietta; fur babies, Little Girl and Charlie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy L. Gottschall.

Robert Crosby, 80, of Manheim Township, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Bob was the devoted husband of Donna (Coffman) Crosby for more than 58 years. He was the loving father to Craig Crosby, of Philadelphia, and Kedren Crosby, married to Sarah Colantonio, of Lancaster, and grandfather to Tom and Therese Toczek, of Lancaster. He is survived by his brother, Richard, of Jefferson, Georgia, married to Sauni.

Many of his hobbies involved spending time in the great outdoors, including hunting, gardening and relaxing at a vacation spot in Massanutten, Va. He was a member of the Isaac Walton Conservation League, Red Rose Chapter, and enjoyed caring for their land north of Lancaster. He also was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, having grown up in western Pa.

In his professional life, Bob served as Vice President of Development for Lancaster General Hospital from 1977 to 1995. He also served as President of the Rotary Club of Lancaster and as a member of Rotary in Myerstown and Cleveland, Ohio. In Myerstown, he helped Evangelical School of Theology with its development efforts. Prior to moving to Lancaster, he worked in development for Cleveland State University and prior to that, the University of Findlay (Ohio) from where he had graduated in 1961. He was a Fellow of the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE).

Bob was a member of the Church of God of Landisville for more than 40 years, serving as a regular Sunday School teacher, on the church’s Finance Team and as President of the Administrative Council.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s memory to the Church of God of Landisville, 171 Church St., Landisville, PA  17538, or to the Isaac Walton League, Red Rose Chapter, 25 Sportsmen Dr., Schaefferstown, PA 17088.

Helen E. Fry, 90, passed away on July 20th, 2020. She was born in Lancaster to the late Henry S. and Stella Frysinger May and was a lifelong resident of Columbia. Helen attended Donegal High School and worked for thirty five years with RCA in Lancaster before her retirement. She adored her family and treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Helen will be missed for her personality and her famous Easter candies.

Helen leaves behind her daughter, Paula, wife of Henry Duke of Columbia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Helen was the last of seven siblings and also leaves behind a large extended family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Fry in 2006 and three sons, Chester, Richard, and Thomas. 

A public visitation for Helen will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24th, 2020 at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, 519 Walnut St, Columbia, PA 17512. Steven Joseph Geiger 56, of Leola Pa went to be with Jesus on June 30th. A Service will be held for him at Memorial Lake on July 19th. He was a graduate of Hempfield High School and he served in the United States Army . He Retired from the Dept of Labor & Industry.  Steven enjoyed collecting sports cards and sports memorabilia, and playing the lottery. He was preceded in death by his parents Philip E. Geiger and Marjorie C. Williams Geiger and four brothers , Gary Lynn , James William, John Christopher and Tim J. He is survived by a brother Philip E Geiger of Pittston Pa and a sister Brenda L Geiger of Windsor Pa and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Minerva R. “Dutch” Brommer, 99, formerly of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Paramount Senior Living. She was the wife of the late Richard A. Brommer with whom she was married 70 years until his death in 2010. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Charles Jr. and Minnie Meyer Bachman.

A devoted member of the Columbia United Methodist Church, she served as a Church Nursery Attendant, Communion Stewardess, was a choir member for over 40 years and attended the Ladies Bible Class Sunday School. At one time she worked as a clerk at the Susquehanna Glass Factory.

Most important to Dutch was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Frank R. husband of Gloria Brommer; Judith A. wife of Thomas Wissler; Deborah K. wife of William Ansalvish; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. The last of her immediate family she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lester, Irene, LeRoy, Harry, Evelyn, Joseph, Abraham, Pauline, Mae, Charles Jr. and Betty.

Funeral services will be held at the Columbia United Methodist Church, 510 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA 17512 on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Grubbs, officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on hour prior to the service. Kindly omit flowers. David A. “Mappy” Mapstone, Sr., 77, of Wrightsville, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at home. He was the husband of Kerry Flanagan Mapstone with whom they would have celebrated 41 years of marriage this July 21st. Born in Sunbury, he was the son of the late Frank and Ruth Long Mapstone.

A graduate of Eastern High School, Class of 1960, he retired in 2008 after 18 years of service from Graham Recycling, York, where he worked in the maintenance department. David also served his country in the Army National Guard.

In addition to his wife is his son, David A. Jr., husband of Renee Mapstone; two grandchildren, Adelyn and Tyler; brother, Frank husband of Donna Mapstone and nephews, Robert and Carl Mapstone.

Funeral services will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Mark S. Kopp, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Wrightsville, PA. Family and friends may view at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

A Celebration of Life: Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 6:30 pm from the funeral home.

James Edwin Moore, Jr., 82, passed away on July 7, 2020. He was born in Columbia, Pennsylvania and was currently living in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was the son of Miriam May and James Edwin Moore, Sr. He had two children: Michele Thomas and husband Kim of York and Paul Moore and wife Penney of Ephrata; five grandchildren, and his significant other Debbie Denithorne.

Ed had a passion for Columbia history, boating, and was a car enthusiast. He was a graduate of Columbia High School and Elizabethtown College. He was in the US Marine Corps. He followed his passion for marketing through his working career.

There will be a celebration of life ceremony at Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

James continued on to be a watch and clock maker and publish books on horology and also served as a curator for the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia

In honor of James’ final wishes, he will be anatomically donated through Gift of Life.

James Carter Harris, 74, of Columbia passed away on July 8th, 2020. He was born in Trenton, NJ to the late James, Sr. and Ethel Palmer. James served in the U.S. Navy, was a graduate of William and Mary College and went on to study horology at Bowman Technical School. He continued on to be a watch and clock maker and publish books on horology and also served as a curator for the National Watch and Clock Museum in Columbia. James enjoyed model trains and would volunteer at the National Toy Train Museum in Strasburg. 

James leaves behind his three sons, Scott Harris of Richmond, VA, Tyler, husband of Brigette Harris of Harrisburg, Matthew, husband of Ashley Thompson of Wrightsville; two grandchildren, Evan and Cory Harris of Richmond, VA.

In honor of James’ final wishes, he will be anatomically donated through Gift of Life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Watch and Clock Museum, 514 Poplar St, Columbia, PA 17512.

She enjoyed baking, collecting antiques, and was a regular at Hinkle’s Restaurant

A celebration of Joane’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced by her family.

Joane L. Ott, 78, of Marietta passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on June 30th, 2020. She was born in Columbia to the late Joseph and Susan Roberts and was a lifelong resident of this area. Joane attended and graduated from Donegal High School and worked for Doc Hinkle Egg Dye before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed baking, collecting antiques, and was a regular at Hinkle’s Restaurant. Joane was a faithful and devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Marietta. She adored spending time with her family, especially her niece and nephews Jess, Dylan, and Jordan.

Joane leaves behind her sons, Joseph, husband of Christine Ott of Marietta, Michael, husband of Miriam Ott of Willow Street; two sisters, Jane, wife of Donald Mimnall of Washington Boro, Mildred, wife of the late James Millar of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George “Duck” Jefferson Ott, Jr. in 2017.
